Best way to install non-official packages?
Sooner or later everyone needs to install a package that is not
included on the official installation CDs/DVD. Until now I just used
rpmseek.com and Rpmfind.Net but of course this is far from optimal for
security and compatibility to reasons.
So what is the recommended way to get and install "non official"
packages that are not part of the repository?!

Cyrus 2.4 and Centos6
Hi Folks,
I'd like to install cyrus-imapd 2.4 in CentOS6.
Found rpm cyrus 2.4 for CentOS6 on rpmseek.
cyrus-imapd-2.4.17-30.1.x86_64.rpm
But there are conflicts with postfix 2.6.6.
Can I ignore this conflicts or is there a suitable version of ppstfix
available?
Thx

Update on "Shift-Return causes segfault (PR#3293)"
Hi all,
I don't read this list, so if anyone wants to respond could they please copy
me so that I see what is happening.
After several exchanges between myself, Marc Schwartz and Peter Dalgaard, we
have come to the following conclusions:
a) Shift-Return does not cause a segfault on most terminals, only Kde's
Konsole.
b) The bug is easily reproducable there.
c) The "real"

Samba 3.0.11 smbd hangs
Hi Guys,
I have experienced an issue when the smbd stops responding, and after cannot
kill the process, using SIGTERM or SIGKILL. A reboot cured the problem. I
had the same problem once again a couple of days later. I realised that both
times I had changed my smb.conf file directly, using vi, and shortly before
the hang occured. The changes to the file were very minor, and the two were

Seeing the IP addresses of domUs from dom0
Using a default xen3.0.1 setup for dom0(rhel4 distro) and domUs (gentoo,
rhel4, centos4.2 distros, ttylinux) with the domUs all having dhcp
turned on, is there an easy way to tell from within the dom0 what ip
addresses were assigned to the domUs after bootup?

Cyrus 2.4 and Centos6
Is there a reason why you need 2.4 vs. the 2.3 package from the CentOS6
repos?

xen + vlan: works but...

Yes, they loose something but not 4% of udp network traffic
Has someone else tested that vlan setup under xen? And what numbers have
you got?
[*]: ttcp is a tool for testing the throughput of tcp/udp connections.
See for example here for packages in rpm:
http://rpmseek.com/rpm-pl/ttcp.html?hl=com&cs=ttcp:PN:0:0:0:0
Typical ttcp commands I''ve run:
1) server listening (ip on vlanXY):
ttcp -u -s -r -f M -n 50000
2) client sending data (ip on vlanXY):
ttcp -u -s -t -f M -n 50000 <other_ip_on_vlanXY>
As for TCP traffic, probably because of p...

samba password complexity help?
Hi there,
Here are the facts:
- I have samba 3.4.2-0.42.fc11 running on a Fedora 11 system.
- Samba is acting as a domain controller, no Windows server involved.
- I am using tdbsam.
- I need to enforce certain password requirements.
The password requirements are:
- min 8 characters
- expiration 90 days
- last 10 passwords may not be reused
- not a dictionary word
Per the Samba 3.2 FAQ, the
