R and package don't know they're built on same system
...tant dynamic
library because it was thought to be for a different system.
The system was non-standard and beta, being a Linux-based 64 bit
Opteron system. It uses the gnu tool chain. The dynamic library was
built from C source.
When I tried to load the library R (1.8.1) complained
"package Rpmi was built for i686-pc-linux-gnu"
Inspection of R.version$platform, which is the thing the i686.... is
being compared to, shows that it is x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu.
I worked around this by removing the test causing the error (in
library.R), but, considering I built both R and Rmpi (an unoffici...

Problem installing/updating Rpmi
Hi
I have a few problems installing/updating packages with complicated
dependencies. For example, the Rmpi package:
update.packages(...)
checking for mpi.h... no
configure: error: "Cannot find mpi.h header file"
ERROR: configuration failed for package ?Rmpi?
So I tried:
>install.packages("Rmpi",configure.args="--with-mpi=/usr/lib/openmpi")

Rmpi : openmpi and mpi.spawn.Rslaves
Hello,
I'm using R on a 10 blade dual quad core Rocks Cluster, and trying to use Rpmi and snow. I basically wondered if at the moment I ought to install Rmpi against another form of mpi (not openmpi) and wondered whether anyone could pass on any experience.
I'm mainly worried about (a) the R server taking up 100% cpu time (I think this is a known issue with Rmpi and openmpi)...

Getting something into centosplus for 5.2?
I've got a USB to serial adapter that I picked up from Radio Shack
earlier this year. The updated pl2303 driver is already in the
mainstream kernel as per
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=429652 but I'm not getting
much traction from Red Hat as far as them updating the kernel. So every
time there's an updated kernel, I have to rebuild the srpm.
I figure that this is the

Error in clusterApply(): recursive default argument reference
Hi,
I want to compute a distribution of the intersection of a graph and
'randomized' graphs induced by the permutations of node labels (to
preserve the graph topology).
Since I ll have many permutations to perform, I was thinking of using
the snow package and in particular "parSapply" to divide the work
between my 4 CPUs.
But I get the following error message :

Recover rpm DB corrupted by disk failure?
Over the weekend my workstation (still on CentOS 3) started showing
SMART errors, so we shut it down and moved everything onto a new
drive. On reboot, the RPM database reports as corrupted and "rpm
--rebuilddb" segmentation faults.
Is there any reasonable way to recover from this, short of a complete
reinstall? The machine is otherwise up though it''s quite likely some
