how to use set_primary_key?
We are trying to use set_primary_key to cause an existing rails db to
use a different primary key. This works find for accessing existing
data, but gives an error when we try to add a new record, as it seems
to still be accessing the record by the default id field at that
point. Are there other changes we need to make to get an alternate
primary key working?
Thanks,
Ken

Problems with getting correct id from query involving two tables
I have a query that is intended to find all "transfers" based on a
condition the uses a second table. In the controller, it looks like
this:
def find_protocols
@transfers = Transfer.find(:all, :from => "transfers,
protocols", :conditions => "transfers.protocol_id = protocols.id AND
protocols.name = \"#{params[:protocol]}\"")

Save using Update
Hi,
I want to update an existing row in table "items" where items.id == 10
I tried this:
item = Item.new
item.f1 = ...
item.f2 = ...
...
item.id = 10
item.save
I got an error
Duplicate entry ... for key 10 : INSERT INTO items ...
How do I make item.save to use UPDATE instead of INSERT?

Handling Images And Rails
On my website people will be able to upload images of themselves. I
was wondering how people are presently handling uploading, resizing
and optimizing images in Rails? Do you use a specific piece of
software to do it? What would you guys recommend? Any code from
RailsDay? :-)
Also, do you guys store the images in the DB or just as files? What
do you suggest? What are the pros and

Fixture like imports...
I am building a site where a user will ftp a bunch of media files to a
server(s). I have a process that runs against all those files and
creates a yml and sql file that can be used to import them into my ruby
on rails application running somewhere completely different.
If I use the sql file, it bypasses all my great validation code in the
model (no good)
I would like to import the yml file. I

tips for how to read stderr?
