Minicom and Ncurses
Hi,
I have to do some maintenance on a CentOS 7 proxy installed on a routerboard
without a video card. The only way to access this machine directly is via
Minicom and serial port.
I'm using NetworkManager TUI (nmtui) to configure network interfaces, but
Ncurses rendering in Minicom works in the sense that chickens fly and horses
swim. What you get is a forest of question m...

RE: the "cisco vs. Linux" thread
FYI this topic has been covered on the Zebra and Quagga lists
- hardware processors, memory, NICs, etc
- software OS (Linux, *BSD), drivers, etc
I''ve been running a couple of Linux routers for about 2 years now, I''m
using
them as core routers so I bought a couple of rackmount "server" boxes
with
redundant PSUs and h/w RAID (1) for hotswap disks.
I''m using

I am looking for a travel router/firewall for a number of reasons:

From network-scripts to NetworkManager on a router : questions
...ewall
I'm currently in the process of moving my KISS-style
network-scripts-style configurations to something more orthodox based on
NetworkManager.
Scenarios (1) and (2) caused no problems, but (3) is giving me some
headache. Let me take an example.
The router in my office is a PC Engines routerboard running CentOS 7. It
has three NICs, and I use two of these.
WAN-facing NIC :
# /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-enp1s0
DEVICE=enp1s0
TYPE=Ethernet
ONBOOT=yes
BOOTPROTO=static
IPADDR=192.168.1.1
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
LAN-facing NIC :
DEVICE=enp2s0
TYPE=Ethernet
ONBOOT=yes
BOOTPROTO=static...

tinc running openwrt (mikrotik metarouter mips)
Hello,
to start could you tell us what version of OpenWrt are you using ? Is
it a stable release ?
and what version of tinc you are trying to install ?
if it is just a problem with the tun/tap module, on OpenWrt you have
not modprobe, so you should use insmod
insmod tun

tinc running openwrt (mikrotik metarouter mips)
Hi Saverio
Ok I got back to this project I was working on. I managed to get tinc
running after hunting and finding the correct mipsbe openwrt package to run
as a metaROUTER image on my RouterBoard 951G-2HnD. The only issue I am
facing now is the performance has dropped significantly since switching to
metaROUTER image. I used to be able to get speeds in region of 60Mbps and
now im only getting max 5Mbps. The CPU utilisation bumps up to 75% once I
throw something at it. I think it might be th...

FTDI USB->Serial a Wine
I've got USB->Serial converter:
Code:
Future Technology Devices International, Ltd FT232 USB-Serial (UART) IC
and I need communicate with this converter to devices(Kirk) via specific Kirk windows software.
I have mapped converter:
Code:
ln -s /dev/ttyUSB0 com1
but I can't connect to it. If I connect the Kirk device directly through mapped /dev/ttyS0, the device get connected.

Inexpensive device for bandwidth management
Hi,
I'm looking for a good network device that does bandwidth management. It
can be integrated in a router or stand-alone, but must be SIP-friendly.
I`ve tried the DIR-655 (latest firmware is SIP-hostile, and the latest
hardware revisions can't downgrade to the version that worked well) and the
DI-724GU (SIP-friendly, but bandwidth management is automated and not
configurable

Unexpected results using HTB qdisc
Hi All,
I am using the script below to limit download rates and manage traffic for a certain IP address and testing the results using iperf. The rate that iperf reports is much higher than the rate I have configured for the HTB qdisc. It''s probably just some newbie trap that''s messing things up but I''m buggered if I can see it.
The following script is run on the
