Set nodatacow per file?
Hello, is it possible to set nodatacow on a per-file basis? I couldn''t find anything. If not, wouldn''t that be a great feature to get around the performance issues with VM and database storage? Of course cloning should still cause COW. Thanks, Ralf-Peter -- To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe linux-btrfs" in the body of a message to

Freeing space over reboot question
Glück Auf! I use now kernel 3.2. The filesystem was originally created under 2.6.39 on 1 whole hdd, mounted with "noatime,nodiratime,inode_cache". I use it for backups: rsync the whole system to a subvolume, snapshot it and then delete some tempfiles in the snapshot, which are 90% of the full-backup, all once a day. In figures: on this 1 TB hdd is the full-backup with around 600 GiB and

KVM on top of BTRFS
What are the recommendations for running KVM images on BTRFS systems using kernel 3.4?  I saw older posts on the web complaining about poor performance, but I know a lot of work has gone into btrfs since then.  There also seemed to be the nocow option, but I didn''t find anything that said it actualy helped. Anybody have ideas? Thanks, Matt -- To unsubscribe from this list: send the line

R: [PATCH 2/2] Btrfs-progs: add mount-option command
Hi Seto, please could you update also the man page too ? Why it was not provided a way to clear a *single* flag ? To me it seems a bit too long to clear all the flag (btrfs mount-option clear) and then set the right one. As user interface I suggest something like chmod: btrfs mount-option set +ssd,skip_balance -nodatacow /dev/sdX or btrfs mount-option set =ssd,skip_balance,nodatacow

fstrim on BTRFS
Hi! With 3.2-rc4 (probably earlier), Ext4 seems to remember what areas it trimmed: merkaba:~> fstrim -v /boot /boot: 224657408 bytes were trimmed merkaba:~> fstrim -v /boot /boot: 0 bytes were trimmed But BTRFS does not: merkaba:~> fstrim -v / /: 4431613952 bytes were trimmed merkaba:~> fstrim -v / /: 4341846016 bytes were trimmed Is it planned to add this feature to BTRFS

btrfs and mdadm raid 6
Hi. I''m considering an imminent switch from ext4 to btrfs and I''m hoping that someone can lend me advice before I do something unsupported. I have a software raid 6 array configured via mdadm. It was sitting at 8 x 3TB until I recently doubled that, grew the array and found that ext4 doesn''t want to resize. So, I''m looking to: 1. convert from ext4 to btrfs

[RFC] btrfs auto snapshot

[RFC] Move btrfsck in to the btrfs command
NOTE: in order to apply this patch you should: git mv btrfsck.c cmd-fsck.c This patch moves btrfsck in to "btrfs fsck". It also adds support for symlinks to the btrfs binary to retain compablity, =) I think something should be done to the help description but i''m not sure what... Anyway, feedback is welcome. -- To unsubscribe from this list: send the line "unsubscribe

kernel 3.3.4 damages filesystem (?)
Hallo, "never change a running system" ... For some months I run btrfs unter kernel 3.2.5 and 3.2.9, without problems. Yesterday I compiled kernel 3.3.4, and this morning I started the machine with this kernel. There may be some ugly problems. Copying something into the btrfs "directory" worked well for some files, and then I got error messages (I''ve not

Deadlock in btrfs-cleaner, related to snapshot deletion
Hello, (this is a recap of yesterday''s discussion on BTRFS IRC, also to save relevant pastes before pastebins expire) I have my /home on btrfs; a cronjob makes one snapshot every 30 minutes; these snapshots are kept for 24-48 hours, then deleted in batches. This is a 16K Leaf/Node BTRFS on top of mdadm RAID1. As system uptime approached 2 weeks, I started noticing that the free space
