New to R
Hello All, A colleague of mine started working with R and out of curiosity I did some research on the language. Very nice. In my opinion this is one of the best languages I've found for getting tasks I'm interested in done. I wrote this simple die roller and was curious to know if it is R enough. ############################################################################## #

Rolling Checksum Algorithms
Hi, Where can I get good pointers on the rolling checksum algorithm used in rsync? I need an 8-bit or 12-bit rolling checksum too. Any place where "rolling" checksum algorithms are discussed? efficient rolling rank
Could someone give me an idea on how to do rolling ranking, i.e. rank in the moving window of last 100 numbers in a long vector? I tried naive solution like roll.rank<-function(v, len){ r<-numeric(length(v)-len+1) for(i in len:length(v)) r[i-len+1]<-rank(v[(i-len+1):i])[len] r } However, it turns out pretty slow even on my rather able Linux box. Pre-roll playing every time user disconnects and connects
I was trying to see if there's a way to configure it so that someone with a weak network connection doesn't have to hear our pre-roll over and over again. pre-roll ads and log file
Hi all, Are pre-roll ads supported by Icecast? If so, how? And will the log file tell me if the pre-roll ad was completely listened to? Say the pre-roll ad lasts 15 seconds. If I see a connection of 15 seconds in the log file, does it mean that the listener stopped listening immediately after the ad or that he listened to the ad and then to 15 seconds of music? And if a player disconnects

Query re: rolling checksum algorithm of rsync
Hi, I had a query wrt the topic of rsync's rolling checksum algorithm: If I have a fileA that is a database file of size 100 MB on local machine. I back it up first time (full backup) using rsync to the server assuming block_size to be 30 KB and --compress option to compress data as it is transferred. Next time, I modify the fileA with another 100 MB new contents towards the end

rolling sum (like in Rmetrics package)
Hello, I'm new to R and would like to know how to create a vector of "rolling sums". (I have seen the Rmetrics package and the rollMean function and I would like to do the same thing except Sum instead of Mean.) I imagine someone has done this, I just can't find it anywhere. Example: x <- somevector #where x is 'n' entries long #what I would like to do is: x1

Rolling algorithm vs CRC
Hello, I have previously mailed on list that I am trying to port rsync to NT. I was wondering that whether CRC can be used to find check sums rather then rolling algorithm. I havnt found any document on web comparing rolling algorithm with CRC. -- Hasanatkazmi@gmail.com "I hate Capitalism,so naturally I love Open Source" -- Hasanat Kazmi +923464362473 -------------- next part

Rolling window linear regression
Hi Does there exists an efficient way of performing linear regression on rolling windows in R. The exact problem is: We have a dataset of length l. The window size is w. Now, I perform linear regression on window i to (i+w) . Using this model can I perform linear regression over window (i+1) to (i+w+1). Thanks Sid Sent on my BlackBerry? from Vodafone

Bug#406973: logtail misses lines in rotated file
Package: logtail Version: 1.2.52 Severity: normal Tags: patch Hi, When a logfile is rotated, logtail misses the lines logged between the last logtail run and the logfile rotation. The attached patch allows to set an alternate logfile that logtail tries to use as the old logfile if the inode has changed. It can be used as: logtail -f /var/log/syslog -a /var/log/syslog.1 (Please note that this

Sequential MLE on time series with rolling window
Hi, Assuming I have a time series on which I will perform rolling-window MLE. In other words, if I stand at time t, I'm using points t-L+1 to t for my MLE estimate of parameters at time t (here L is my rolling window width). Next, at t+1, I'll do the same. My question is that is there anyway to avoid performing MLE each time like does the above. My impression is that rolling from point t

Zoo rolling window with increasing window size
Hi again, I am wondering there is any function for 'zoo' time series, where I can apply a user defined function rolling window basis, wherein window size is ever increasing i.e. not fixed. For example, let say I have below user defined function and a zoo time series : > library(zoo) > UDF = function(x) sum(x) > TS = zoo(rnorm(10), seq(as.Date('2017-01-01'),
