non-windows behavior of samba
We have a vendor who is going to install an application server, and it
requires samba to behave as much like windows as possible. There is a
particular case they are complaining about.
1. Run samba on redhat server
2. Map a drive from windows. Let's say the Z: drive
3. Run a script to open and continuously modify a file on the samba
share
4. Observe the samba share in Windows

Uploading printer driver from Windows client gives "access denied" error
I'm using Samba 3.0 on a Debian Sarge server, and am trying to upload
printer drivers from a Windows client. I connect to the server using the
root credentials (yes I know ...), but every time I get an "access
denied" message when the driver upload process starts. I can perform
other root functions via this connection no problem. I have uploaded
drivers this way in the past but

HP Deskjet 6940 and 6988
Hello all,
Does anybody share HP Deskjet 6940 and HP Deskjet 6988 off a samba
server successfully? I currently using Samba versions 3.0.24 Ubuntu
Fiesty Fawn in my production environment. I also the issue occurs on my
laptop which is running Gutsy Gibbon 7.10 which uses Samba 3.0.26. The
issue is when my users try to print multiple copies they can not through
the samba server. These printers

Does anyone have a clue about what might cause this? Or a hint about where
to look further? I'm more than willing to provide more detailed information.
Thanks in advance,
roel

Printing; privileges separation
Hi list,
I'm using samba 3.0.26a with cups as printing backend, which are both
working fine. However, I would like to grant all users access to all print
jobs, but without granting them the right to add or modify printers and
printer settings.
When I grant users the SePrintOperatorPrivilege privilege, they can indeed
cancel other people's jobs, but then they can also rename printers

Point'n'print support of various printer drivers
Hi list,
I've got a generic question about Point'n'print.
We're using Point'n'print with different versions of samba (3.3.x, 3.4.x,
3.5.x) and in most cases it works really well. However, there are some
printer drivers with which we just cannot get printing to work properly: in
these cases not all driver features (like color, duplex or multiple copies)
are available.

Unable to save MS Word documents with 3.5.x
Hi list,
recently I upgraded about 20 of our samba servers from 3.3.7 to 3.5.[23].
Since then I have had two reports of people intermittently unable to save
microsoft Word documents.
I haven't been able to look at it thoroughly, since these issues were
immediately resolved by downgrading to 3.4.8. I also haven't been able to
reproduce it in our test lab yet, so I cannot provide any

force group behaviour changed in 3.5.9
Hi list,
beginning with samba 3.5.9, the behaviour or effects of the "force group"
parameter changed. The change is that with my config I can create new files
on the share but I can no longer delete (or rename) those files. With 3.5.8,
I could create and delete them.
The setup is as follows:
[webshare]
path = /webshare
force group = www
create mask = 0664

pfifo_fast priomap
Hi list,
I have a quick question about the priority mapping of tos bits. The manpage
of tc-prio shows a nice table with tos bits and the band they
are mapped to:

Samba hangs DOS apps (foxpro and clipper)
Hi.
I start to manage small network with about twenty
workstation. There is an old DELL with Novell 3 as file server
and spooler for four printers. Clients (Win98 and WinXP)
runs dos applications written in clipper and foxpro.
Everything works fine, but... :)
I want to migrate file server and spooler in to new server
with RHEL5. Cups works fine, but Samba not. DOS apps

permission/acl troubles
Hi list,
Since I've upgraded from samba 3.0.23c to 3.0.25c my ACL's don't work as
expected anymore. I'm not sure where the problem is, however. The symptoms
are simple: with 3.0.23c, I could grant and revoke user, group and world
write access to and from files in a share. With 3.0.25c, I can't do that
anymore. When I deselect group or world read access and apply the
