Ignoring /run/user/X
We are running into an issue relating to snmpd and the temporary partitions created in /run/user/ so any insight by someone with magical net-snmp skills would be much appreciated. Our monitoring app walks all our servers. We modify /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf on all our servers to just have one line: rocommunity ourcommnuityname monitor.ing.app.ip This has worked just fine for almost 10 years. Since the release of CentOS 7 we are getting alerts for partitions not being found during walks and these are the temporary partitions that are ephemeral while a user is logged in: /run/user/0 /run/user/65000 Seem...

ip based acl at snmp v3?
Hello, all. My system is centos 5.x and I would like to set IP based (acl) accessl-list at snmp verison 3. As I know, at snmp v1/v2c, we can set acl like below. ------ snmpd.conf -------- rocommunity public 127.0.0.1 rocommunity public 10.0.0.1/24 rouser testuser createUser testuser MD5 "passwords" DES --------------------------------------------------- But, how about snmp version 3? I searched and tried, but I could't find the answer. Surely, I can set hosts.deny or ip...

net-snmp-5.5-27.el6.i686
Hello, Can someone explain why I don't get a timeout when I use the community string "public" even if I don't have it defined in my snmpd.conf file. It doesn't return data but it also doesn't timeout. See example below. ... rocommunity nobody 127.0.0.1 ... [root at L703108 pgsql]# snmpwalk -v 1 -c public 127.0.0.1 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1 ifMIB [root at L703108 pgsql]# snmpwalk -v 1 -c xyz 127.0.0.1 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1 ifMIB Timeout: No Response from 127.0.0.1 [root at L703108 pgsql]# snmpwalk -v 1 -c nobody 127.0.0.1 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1...

SNMP and OID/MIB/MRTG
Hi all. I am having an issue and quite frankly would rather not spend the entire next two days learning the entire snmp program. I am hoping someone out there has used MRTG and SNMP to make it work. I have both installed. Single server, polling itself. Question 1- does snmpd have to run as a daemon, or only run once so I can get OID and MIBs from it? Question 2- does anyone know the command

[OT] snmp not reporting traffic values for a network interface
...stalled net-snmp 5.1.2-6.1 in Debian to produce graphs for some ethernet interfaces. It seems it''s not reporting correct values for them. Here''s my snmpd.conf (very simple) and the output from the poller program: #snmpd.conf rwuser edu auth rouser jffnms auth .1.3.6.1.4.1.8072 rocommunity public localhost rwcommunity private localhost pass .1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.5001 /usr/bin/php -q /home/jffnms/jffnms-0.8.1/docs/utils/jffnms-snmp/jffnms-snmp.php tc .1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.5001 pass .1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.5002 /usr/bin/php -q /home/jffnms/jffnms-0.8.1/docs/utils/jffnms-snmp/jffnms-snmp.php iptabl...

Recommendation On Ping And Alert Tool
A bit off topic, but I keep looking for an answer to this question and coming up with nothing... so I thought I would go to the gurus. :-) Can anyone recommend a good package for pinging other devices and sending an email/alert when they go down? I'm aware of all kinds of more complex things with GUIs and a zillion other bells and whistles we aren't looking for, but we just want a simple
