snapdir visable recursively throughout a dataset
Is there an existing RFE for, what I''ll wrongly call, "recursively visable snapshots"? That is, .zfs in directories other than the dataset root. Frankly, I don''t need it available in all directories, although it''d be nice, but I do have a need for making it visiable 1 dir down from the dataset root. The problem is that while ZFS and Zones work smoothly

ARCSTAT Kstat Definitions
Would someone "in the know" be willing to write up (preferably blog) definitive definitions/explanations of all the arcstats provided via kstat? I''m struggling with proper interpretation of certain values, namely "p", "memory_throttle_count", and the mru/mfu+ghost hit vs demand/prefetch hit counters. I think I''ve got it figured out, but

MySQL THD via PID Provider
I want to go a lot deeper with my tracing of MySQL and to do so I want to look into MySQL Thread Descriptors (class THD). Inside is a great bulk of information utilized by a great many of the core functions within MySQL... I really want to get in there. So far I''ve had no luck though. It''s a C++ class, and I''m afraid that I''m approaching it like a C struct,

Cross Platform Mixers and LibAO
...39;d hate to cludge it up if I can avoid it. At the moment I'm just using an OSS mixer, but am ready to re-write the mixer code. Is it possibly that at some point in the future libao might include mixer functions? Any thoughts are appreciated. benr. <p><p> -- //Ben Rockwood - UNIX Systems Admin //email: benr@cuddletech.com //web: www.cuddletech.com //-> We do what we can, We give what we have, //-> Our doubt is our passion, and our passion is our task, //-> The rest is the madness of Art. //-> -Henry James <p><p>--- >8 ---- List archives:...

Adding a mirror to an existing single disk zpool
Hello All, I''m transitioning data off my old UFS partitions onto ZFS. I don''t have a lot of duplicate space so I created a zpool, rsync''ed the data from UFS to the ZFS mount and then repartitioned the UFS drive to have partitions that match the cylinder count of the ZFS. The idea here is that once the data is over I wipe out UFS and then attach that partition to the

Is SUNWhd for Thumper only?
I read Ben Rockwood''s blog post about Thumpers and SMART (http://cuddletech.com/blog/pivot/entry.php?id=993). Will the SUNWhd package only work on a Thumper? Can I use this on my snv_101 system with AMD 64 bit processor and nVidia SATA?

ZFS works in waves
A little back story: I have a Norco DS-1220, a 12 bay SATA box, it is connected to eSATA (SiI3124) via PCI-X two drives are straight connections, then the other two ports go to 5x multipliers within the box. My needs/hopes for this was using 12 500GB drives and ZFS make a very large & simple data dump spot on my network for other servers to rsync to daily & use zfs snapshots for

RESOLVED - RE: Ext3 problems possibly plauging me
...used by ext3, but rather a very very untimely memory failure that occured during my convertion from ext2 to ext3. It turned out that one of my PC2100 DDRs went south, and I'll be contacting Crucial to deal with that. Thanx again for all the help. benr. -----Original Message----- From: Ben Rockwood Sent: Mon 1/28/2002 3:00 PM To: ext3-users@redhat.com Cc: Subject: Ext3 problems possibly plauging me Hello. My box has been running flawlessly for months now, but in the last 2 days hasn't stayed up for more than 5 minutes. All this seemed to have started after I did a very very bad thing....

Ext3 problems possibly plauging me
...either a) the ext2-ext3 conversion which killed me, or b) a componant has failed and the timing has really really bad. I've got 3 kernels avalible on the system, 2.5.1, 2.4.15, and 2.4.17-mjc. All 3 kernels have ext3 in 'em. Any ideas AT ALL would be very very very helpful. Thank You. brockwood@homestead-inc.com

Monitoring filessytem access
When somebody is hammering on the system, I want to be able to detect who''s doing it, and hopefully even what they''re doing. I can''t seem to find any way to do that. Any suggestions? Everything I can find ... iostat, nfsstat, etc ... AFAIK, just show me performance statistics and so forth. I''m looking for something more granular. Either *who* the

Monitoring ZFS host memory use
Hi, Please forgive me if my searching-fu has failed me in this case, but I''ve been unable to find any information on how people are going about monitoring and alerting regarding memory usage on Solaris hosts using ZFS. The problem is not that the ZFS ARC is using up the memory, but that the script Nagios is using to check memory usage simply sees, say 96% RAM used, and alerts. The

Updated Crossbow virtualization architecture document
Folks, I just posted an updated Crossbow virtualization architecture document. The new revision is available at: http://opensolaris.org/os/project/crossbow/Docs/crossbow-virt.pdf The main changes are the addition of support for multiple MAC addresses per client, and an explicit separation between consolidation private and project private MAC API entry points. See in particular the

SDXC and the future of ZFS
Wouldn''t it be great if the opensolaris community creates a fs fzfs (for flash zfs) that could be the the filesystem for SDXC cards? Two main point for this are already there Sun is a member of SD Card Association and the code writting smart on a flash should be there as well with stuff of l2arc. I think that could give the opensolaris a more visiblie/ markting in the IT space and would

zfs list improvements?
To improve the performance of scripts that manipulate zfs snapshots and the zfs snapshot service in perticular there needs to be a way to list all the snapshots for a given object and only the snapshots for that object. There are two RFEs filed that cover this: http://bugs.opensolaris.org/view_bug.do?bug_id=6352014 : ''zfs list'' should have an option to only present direct
