disk I/O problems and Solutions
Hey folks,
CentOS / PostgreSQL shop over here.
I'm hitting 3 of my favorite lists with this, so here's hoping that
the BCC trick is the right way to do it :-)
We've just discovered thanks to a new Munin plugin
http://blogs.amd.co.at/robe/2008/12/graphing-linux-disk-io-statistics-with-munin.html
that our production DB is completely maxing out in I/O for about a 3
hour stretch from 6am til 9am
This is "device utilization" as per the last graph at the above link.
Load went down for a while but is now between 70% and 95% sus...

Hi,
I run a mirror server for various projects and rsync generating directory
listings for incoming connections takes a good deal of the available
ressources (mainly disk I/O). Increasing the directory + inode cache is a no-go
when having ~3 mill...

Problem with different case logins
...tand the problem. If an user logs with a name
with just one letter changed from lower case to upper case, all his/her
folders and mail will be seemingly gone.
Is this a bug or a feature? If the latter, is it possible to change
this behaviour, or at least work around it?
Thanks in advance.

registry settings in wine-0.9.17
Hi,
I'm using software for chip programming. It is written for Windows
operation systems. The software use direct access to LTP port.
I have used old version of wine, which used the "config" file for
configuration. This new version of wine-0.9.17 uses registry.
What I need is to set the port numbers for the direct access. In the
old version of wine it was:

Status of xen in Debian?
...what about sarge/etch? Are there packages
also, even if only for Xen 2? I'd like to use it in a semi-production
machine (which means that it's doing some work, even if it's not overly
important) with sarge, and I'd prefer not to stray too far from stable.
Thanks in advance.

Problems joining new gluster 3.10 nodes to existing 3.8
Hi,
I have a problem joining four Gluster 3.10 nodes to an existing
Gluster 3.8 nodes. My understanding that this should work and not be
too much of a problem.
Peer robe is successful but the node is rejected:

PCA functions
Hi All, would appreciate an answer on this if you have a moment;
Is there a function (before I try and write it !) that allows the input of a
covariance or correlation matrix to calculate PCA, rather than the actual
data as in princomp()

3. result failure as userA cant access the ttyX with such a message
Current:
1. login as userA start a screen as userA and disconnect
2. login as root su - userA "screen -r"

Odd SSL issue - host not showing with puppet cert --list --all
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone had any similar issues OR idea''s on
troubleshooting the following problem.
I have a client/node registered to the puppet master and it is working
without any issues. On the server I can see it compile the catalog in
the logs. However when I run ''puppet cert --list --all'' it is not in
the list. Note we use auto signing

Asterisk + SER and NAT
Hi,
We are testing a SIP solution * + ser solution for a large implementation.
All the clients are nated.
When a client is dialing outside the domain (to a FWD sip account for
example) all is perfect ! ;-)
But ,when a call is done to a sip account, the client is ringing, then the
caller can hear the nated client very well, but the nated client does'nt
hear anything. RTP issue no ?

Documentation for ACL support
Hi,
the changelog of beta4 suggested that ACL support was added but I couldn't find
any documentation for it neither in the tarball nor in the wiki.
Timo, do you already have some writeups regarding the ACLs or do I have to RTFS?
best regards,
Michael

Status of fragment support, advantages of having fewer indoes
Hi,
There wasn't much information regarding fragment support of ext2/3 since 2003
[1], Andreas stating that there were problems with the xattr implementation. Has
this changed in the meanwhile?
My second question is regarding the bytes-per-inode ratio: What benefits would I
gain from having fewer inodes? I reckon it's only diskspace (if so, how much?).
best regards,
Michael Renner

Cosmetical printk change, remounting problems.
Hi!
I noticed yet another dying IBM drive in one of my servers, producing IDE
+ "standard" ext3 error messages (happened during the start of a new
journal methinks):
ext3_reserve_inode_write: aborting transaction: Journal has aborted in
__ext3_journal_get_write_access<2>EXT3-fs error (device ide5(57,1)) in
ext3_reserve_inode_write: Journal has aborted
which clearly shows that

Inode/Blocksize questions
Hi!
I'm going to build a maildir-based mailserver with a ~56 gb
mail-partition. What blocksize/bytes-per-inode/number of inodes should i
use (i don't want to ran out of inodes and don't want to sacrifice too
much space for filefragments)?
Is there a drawback when lowering the blocksize/increasing the number of
inodes (except the maximum filesystem size)?
The inodes used by a file is
