R and Xcode Editor
Hi
From the R for OS X FAQ page: (http://cran.r-project.org/bin/macosx/RMacOSX-FAQ.html
)

Mac and tcltk
Does the Mac version of R include tcltk? There is a section in the R Mac FAQ:
http://cran.r-project.org/bin/macosx/RMacOSX-FAQ.html#TclTk-issues
about tcltk issues on R for Mac but its not clear to me from this
whether tcltk is
or is not included and I don't have a Mac to try it out.

R for Mac OS X: 10.3.9 is obsolete?
...f the following decision:
===
... Starting with R 2.3.0, CRAN binaries support Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and higher only.

Of course,

It is, however, possible to compile binaries for earlied OS X versions from sources.

But the process, described on
http://cran.r-project.org/bin/macosx/RMacOSX-FAQ.html#Building-R-from-sources consists of more than 9 steps and is much more complex than installing R for Linux. And I think that most Mac users (like their Windows colleagues) cannot compile any application from source...
Even worse, I also suspect (there is no information, actually) that fro...

OpenBLAS in everyday R?
On point 1):
The standard approach seems to favor the reference BLAS for reasons other
than speed.
For example, vecLib, Apple's multi-threaded BLAS library, is not the
default choice for macOS binaries due to concerns about 'precision'. See:
https://cloud.r-project.org/bin/macosx/RMacOSX-FAQ.html#Whic

This doesn't appear to be Mac- or vecLib-specifc. R-Core seem wary of
non-reference BLAS implementations for several reasons:
'External BLAS implementations often make less use of extended-precision

open script file from command line
Hi all,
Is there a function to open a script file from the command line? I have
several students who are Mac users and when they open up a script file it
does not send commands to the console, and unfortunately I don't know how to
solve this problem since I am not a Mac user.
I have looked over the FAQ for Mac users, but didn't see a reference to the
problem.
I think they are both

Compiling R-2.9.1 on Mac OS X 10.4
Hello,
I am trying to compile R-2.9.1 on Mac OS-X 10.4 using --enable-R-shlib.
I am not comfortable with Mac/Linux environments and trying to follow the
instructions from CRAN site to every detail.
The Mac OS did not have a gcc (gcc -version did not work). So I did the
following:
## For gcc 4.2 and Fortran 4.2.4 Compilers
Download gcc-4.2-5566-darwin8-all.tar.gz from

According to the FAQ at

I need to uninstall R 2.7.1 from my Mac. What is the best way to uninstall
it? Simply delete the R icon in the Applications folder?
Or is it more involved?
TIA,

Quartz doesn't display x-axis properly until a window resize (PR#11368)
...ng the x-axis to be drawn off-screen, "below" the bottom of the Quartz
window.
When resizing the window, the Quartz windows' size and the particular plots'
size are matched
and only after doing that you can see the entire graphics properly.
In http://cran.r-project.org/bin/macosx/RMacOSX-FAQ.html#Sparse-questions,
point 12.8, it is explained that Quartz plots are much bigger now because
"all devices in R have a default size of 7 inches. Quartz used a default of 5
inches and that was now changed to match all other devices." However, the above
bug shows this hasn't been...

Problems opening R (PR#13908)
Hi,
I'm having problems opening R on MAC OSX. It was working fine, then I
tried using the fix() command on one of my data sources. R froze, so I
re-started it. R would not open, the icon kept bouncing in the dock. I
have tried reinstalling the program, but every time the installer says
it is "updating" instead of installing - I'm not sure how to
completely erase R from

RSPerl on OS X Server 10.4.11

/tmp/R/R.framework/Resources/bin/R CMD INSTALL -c -l '/home/gdowns/R'

RSPerl *does* work with this version of R. I'm confused because
question 1.3 of the RMacOSX-FAQ says:
"Note that the CRAN binary includes R shared library, so there is no
need to re-compile R with --enable-R-shlib. "
I also note that when installing RSPerl with the binary distribution of
R, the R CMD INSTALL process does not generate the perl modules (in the
