Looking for motherboard/chipset experience, again
...ged into the community. I don''t yet have the impression that Solaris runs on most anything, possibly after tracking down a few drivers. Does it, really? These observations are very crude, and can't really be considered "measurements"; but I'm feeling they aren't even in the right *order of magnitude*. -- David Dyer-Bennet, <mailto:dd-b@dd-b.net>, <http://www.dd-b.net/dd-b/> RKBA: <http://www.dd-b.net/carry/> Pics: <http://www.dd-b.net/dd-b/SnapshotAlbum/> Dragaera/Steven Brust: <http://dragaera.info/>

ZFS Inexpensive SATA Whitebox
All, So I have started working with Solaris 10 at work a bit (I''m a Linux guy by trade) and I have a dying nfs box at home. So the long and short of it is as follows: I would like to setup a SATAII whitebox that uses ZFS as its filesystem. The box will probably be very lightly used, streaming media to my laptop and workstation would be the bulk of the work. However I do have quite a

Proposal: multiple copies of user data
Here is a proposal for a new ''copies'' property which would allow different levels of replication for different filesystems. Your comments are appreciated! --matt A. INTRODUCTION ZFS stores multiple copies of all metadata. This is accomplished by storing up to three DVAs (Disk Virtual Addresses) in each block pointer. This feature is known as "Ditto Blocks". When
