R-beta: more R for Windows (rjune)
...ports that the 3.51 problems
are now different but not solved. I'm trying to locate a 3.51 machine
and will post another fix.
Can I get some feedback on how people want these "patches" delivered?
Should I be numbering them and keeping the old patches? I don't
want to put them in rjune.zip until I'm confident that they work
and I have most of the current problems fixed.
If people have other bugs that I have missed, please let me know
and I will try to get a major revamp done.

...(biasboot from Splus 3.4)
In this particula case the bias was 3.87058501-4. R seem to be better
than Splus which give a biasboot that is too small (or too big in abs value)
But more analysis using simulation reveals otherwise.
We then tried the simulation and that was reported earlier....
We use Rjune on the Win95 and Win NT machine.

Application Error message
I am submitting the command:
calcium<-read.table("calcium.txt",header=TRUE)
and with Rw0630 and Bdr0631 I get an application error and R crashes. But
the command works fine with rjune. I am running under NT4.0
Anyone have a similar problem?

R for Win 3.1(1)?
...e work on Windows. I know the real action is
on Win32, but I have access to a laptop which runs 3.1 and I thought it
might be useful to develop on the lowest common denominator anyway.
I downloaded "tmp.zip" (dated 03 September 1998) from
/R/CRAN/bin/windows/windows, which unzipped to Rjune.exe, which when run
under my setup said it couldn't run in DOS mode and refused to do anything
else. Should I try "oldtmp.zip" instead, or back up farther? I'd like to
avoid old bugs, if possible ...
Any suggestions (particularly from anyone who has a working 3.1 setup)

Ca't run R on NT4
I'm using NT 4, service pack 3, and running rjune.exe, dated 23/9/98.
This works fine when I'm logged in as administrator, but when a user logs
in, R fails with the message 'memory problem'.
I assume that R needs (write?) access to something to which our user
accounts don't normally have access. I tried giving the account full ac...

installing R packages in Windows?
...instructions are for Unix only (and the current version says so:
earlier versions did say that the information for Windows was provisional).
For Guido's R-0.63.0 announced today you need the right compilers
and help pages from Unix (until I have got my setup to do this working
portably). For Rjune I do not have the right tools.
Which package were you interested in? I intend to have pre-compiled
versions for Guido's R-0.63.0 and R-0.62.4 available very soon (and
he may be doing some too). This will be as simple as
cd to library
unzip
add a line to LibIndex

More Slack7 heartbreak.
All line number are approximate, but most likely w/in 10 lines of the
OpenSSH 1.2.3 tarball.
I unpacked the tarball, and did a ./configure;make;make install
and now I've had some problems. :-)
OK, I've tracked down lots of goofy stuff w/ slack7 and OpenSSH
I've got a couple of questions.
What is /dev/tty and why does ssh try to open it to read the password
instead of stdin?(this cause

: PS to damien: OpenSSH itselfs builds fine on the alpha, but I'm having
to
: argue w/ gnome-askpass a little bit, I think it's just that I have to
: install some newer libraries.(rh 6.0 is old)
Have you tried x11-ssh-askpass? It just uses the regular X11
libraries. I'd be interested to know what happens to it on 64-bit
platforms.
I've never used askpass, I'm currently just
