reading in tab delimited data in a loop
Dear all, I need to read in 4 sets of tab delimited data in a loop. The 4 data sets are called "simu1.dat", "simu2.dat" and so on. I know what I need on the righthand side of the read.table expression but I can't the left hand side of it to work (see the line in bold below). Can you kindly help? Many thanks. simu1 <- matrix(0,30,3) simu2 <- matrix(0,30,3) simu3 <- matrix(0,30,3) simu4 <- matrix(0,30,3) for (i in 1:4) { simu[i] <- read.table...

Utilizing winetricks to get dotnet20
...m a first time wine user. I am using Mac OS X Version 10.6.3 I installed wine through the following link :http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/ My goal is to run a video game called Ultima Online. In order to do this I need dotnet20 which I attempt to get by opening up the little wine icon on the top righthand side of the bar and then I click on Winetricks. My problem is that it never seems to fully install and when I go back to wine Tricks dotnet20 is showed as being unchecked.

...root = DOMAIN\Administrator DOMAIN\administrator > > I can't remember if I added this and why ... or if it is something old > from their former linux admin. I have no idea if you created it or not, I wasn't there at the time ;-) What the user.map does, it takes the user on the righthand side, 'Administrator' and maps it the user on the lefthand side, 'root' What this means in practise is that whenever Administrator connects to Samba, it becomes root, with the privileges that root has. So never use Administrator on Unix, use root, but from Windows you can safel...

Factor level comparisons in lme
...form: lme(y ~ x * Sex * Year, random=x|subject) where Sex and Year are factors with two and three levels respectively. I want to compare the fixed effects for each level to the overall mean, but the default in R is to compare to the first level. This can be changed by adding the term -1 to the righthand side of the model formula. But what I can''t figure out is how to do this for both factors simultaneously. If I specify the model as: lme(y ~ x * Sex * Year-1, random=x|subject) the output gives me the fixed effects for each level of "Sex" compared to the overall mean, but st...

Forte Agent windowing problem
...ore closing and the lower image is after re-opening. http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk268/farry6/agent.png This happens if it's fullscreen or in a smaller window. I can restore the normal view by carefully clicking two times on the third innermost of the restore-window buttons in the top righthand corner. This problem did not occur with Wine 0.9.20 in Mandriva 2007, but when I upgraded to Mandriva 2008.1 and Wine 0.9.58 then I found this problem. I tried Wine 1.0 from the Wine HQ and that had the same problem. I tried Agent versions 3.2 and 3.3 with the same results. Fortunately, I could...

Dovecot Migration so far
...s/12/dc/mail at box/.INBOX/dovecot.index.cache: Broken virtual size for mail UID 3244 The message corresponding with UID 3244 was around 1116 bytes (+32 bytes, IIRC), so no clue where the 1087383. In all the cases of that error I saw, the lefthand number of bytes was very closer to correct and the righthand was way way off, and the S= flag in the filename was correct too. I'm guessing that the random righthand number was just due to corrupted cache. When I reformatted that partition as ext3, the error went almost completely away (just a few total over the past few days, as opposed to a few per hou...

Re: nlrq problem
Johannes, You can minimize an model expression by just putting the ~ on the left and everything else on the righthand side, but I don't think that this is really what you want. In the NLS expression this would ignore the jacobian of the transformation from errors to response, and in nlrq there is the same problem, however you can adjust for the jacobian by rescaling by the geometric mean of the response. I h...

Quadratic curve on a loop
Dear R community, once again I request your generous help on an R issue I cannot seem to figure out. I am trying to do some analysis for multiple sites, in my example I am using only two, but the same will done on many sites. It's just ONE line, so I hope somebody can give a me a hand by email. Look at the loop to make the plot x ~ y. If the curve function is removed from the loop

How to replace slashes with back slashes
Dear R-helpers I am running R2.0.0 under Windows 2000. I am compiling a number of file paths into a simple text file that will be read by some other software we use. Unfortunately, it can only handle file paths with back slashes (MS Windows convention), and from R, I get file paths with forward slashes. The following didn't work. > gsub('/', '\\',

Is there a simpler solution? What I haven't figured out is how to use "catvar" once again but on the righthand side of the transformation. In the second to last line, I'd like to do "perschoice$catvar<-perschoice$newy". I've tried several possibities but I can't figure out how to let R substitute the value of "catvar" in that expression. "eval(dep)" doesn't w...
