smbpasswd -a ldapsam problem
...mbaSamAccount))
to smb.conf I cannot run
smbpasswd -a [username]
anymore. It works fine without the ldap filter statement.
I noticed that the ldap queries are different with ldap filter activated
( from the ldap logfile ):

Is the default wrong or does the filter not work at all?

Charset
I have upgraded on my debian server from samba 2.2.3 (stable ) to samba
3.0rc4 (unstable).
The only problem that I have on my PDC is that italian character as ? (a') ?
(u') etc. are non treated as they should and this can cause profiles non to
load correctly.
What should I do?

Samba3: machine account uid
...id for the machine account and I want to have
the machine accounts in a different number range from the "normal" user
accounts - so I wondered whether this uid has to be unique.
thanks a lot for all comments that enlighten me. ;)

Samba3: group mapping with samba PDC, LDAP account flags
...The examples always refer to UX, while smbpasswd
just sets the U-flag on my system. What are these falgs about. They are
mentioned once in the Howto Collection in chapter 7, but that does not
really explain the matter.
thanks for answers.

Deleted smb.conf
I have RedHat 9.1 running. Installed Samba that comes along with the OS to
test it out. When I was playing with it, I deleted the smb.conf file
inadvertently.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the Samba utilities, but that didn't help.
How do I get back the default smb.conf file?
Thanks in advance.

client code page and valid chars
Problem:
I recently recognized that my samba server was misconfigured for some
years now. I never used the charset and "client code page" parameters in
my smb.conf to map windows encoded filenames with german umlauts to the
unix ones. For that reason I now have lots of filenames with windows
encoded german umlauts on my samba-share.
OK.
Now I want to change this fact (softly). When I

Samba 3.0.4 on RHEL3
There have been several issues fixes since the 3.0.2 release of Samba. One
of the most important issues is a problem with password changing after
applying the patch described in the Microsoft KB828741 article to Windows
clients.
I want to run Samba 3.0.4 on RHEL3. The version provided by RedHat is
samba-3.0.2-6.3E. I can't find any other RPMs or SRPMs for RHEL3. Any help

W2K3 Server + RAS + Samba 3.0 Domain
...the logs it?s not even trying to.
Of course i asked google and searched this list but the closest thing i
found was about Win2000 RAS ... and it was a post about that not working
either.
Question: Anyone ever gotten this to work ? With a 2K or 2K3 Server ?

POLL: Does anyone actually use multiple passdb backends on the same server?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Folks,
We are discussing removing the capability to chaining passdb
backends. It's a decent idea but overly complicates things
IMO and unless it has wide spread use, we'll probably axe it
soon (voting is starting up on the samba-tecnnical ml now).
To give you an example of what I mean, is anyone using
something like:

Trouble with X under Fedora Core 3
Hi!
I have tried several ways to get wine up and running on my Fedora Core 3
machine. I used pre-built FC3 rpm's from 20050111 as well as some older and also
tried compiling from SRPM for FC3 or from tarball. I have tried to run some
programs, namely notepad.exe from a WinXP, draw4ch2.exe which is an installer
for a program which works from Win95 upwards, and the dcom98.exe which

Group policies and Vista
Hi,
coming back to my old topic: How to manage clients. Up to Windows XP one
could use the NT4-style policies, but Vista does not seem to obey them.
Are there any plans to get group policy functions on a samba-only
domain? Or are there other ways to manage the clients?
best regards, Gunther
