Looking for way to monitor dsync, confirm it is or isn't running
...c health check to confirm that dsync is (or is not) running properly between the two sites, and alert me if dsync is failing or lagging excessively. Does anyone know of a tool to do this? (If possible, something I can set up to run periodically in Nagios?) Thanks for any suggestions. Rich Wales richw at richw.org

the prefix number of the configuration filename
Hi all, I am very curious about the prefix number of the configuration filename, such as 10-auth.conf 10-director.conf 10-logging.conf 10-mail.conf 10-master.conf 10-ssl.conf 15-lda.conf 15-mailboxes.conf 20-imap.conf 20-lmtp.conf 20-managesieve.conf 20-pop3.conf 90-acl.conf 90-plugin.conf 90-quota.conf 90-sieve.conf 90-sieve-extprograms.conf What are those meanings of 10,15,20 and 90 ? Replication fails with "Remote dsync doesn't use compatible protocol"
...and why I would be having any sort of "compatible protocol" problem. Any ideas? I posted the "dovecot -n" output for both servers in my earlier e-mail on this issue, which I sent about 24 hours ago (and which I assume was too long for people to be willing to read). Rich Wales richw at richw.org

mdbox and folders containing both messages and sub-folders
...Or is the "folders containing both messages and sub-folders" feature simply broken for the "mdbox" format -- meaning presumably that I'll be forced either to use the Maildir format, or else abandon Dovecot entirely and install Cyrus on my new mail server instead? Rich Wales richw at richw.org

Xen not seeing all the memory in the box
...com cc_compile_date : Mon Feb 4 16:43:33 UTC 2013 xend_config_format : 4 If I boot a regular Ubuntu kernel, it sees all 16 GB of RAM. And I ran a memory test overnight, and the memory is all good. Any suggestions for how to make Xen able to use all the RAM on the machine? Rich Wales richw@richw.org

Need destination zone with DNAT- in shorewall-perl 4.2.1?

Maildir with LAYOUT=fs not working
...ating user XXX's inbox (something that seems to work fine on Cyrus). My Cyrus server currently has over 1,600 folders and subfolders, so I absolutely can't / won't consider switching it to Dovecot unless I can get the nested filesystem layout working. Any thoughts? -- Rich Wales / richw at richw.org / richw at stanford.edu Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Richwales Facebook: http://www.new.facebook.com/profile.php?id=206680

Weird boot loader
...g, type "W" (without changing the existing partitioning!), confirm that you do want to write changes immediately, and then choose "Standard" in the boot manager dialogue. I've done this on a FreeBSD-only server at home, and it seems to work fine. Rich Wales richw@richw.org http://www.richw.org

Restricting access by time of day in Shorewall?
...r tool I could try using on my firewall to do this? I know I could use something like SquidGuard to limit web browsing from specific systems during specific time ranges, but I need to limit other forms of access too (e.g., IM chatting). -- Rich Wales === Palo Alto, CA, USA === richw@richw.org http://www.richw.org === http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Richwales "The difference between theory and practice is that, in theory, theory and practice are identical -- whereas in practice, they aren''t." --------------------------------------------------------...

Capability problems dovecot 2.0
Hi, I had some problems connecting TB 2.x with dovecot 2.0. TB2 complained about not being an IMAP4 server. TB 3 worked. It seems that dovecot 2.0 doesn't return capabilities when queried. Maybe some wrong config, thoug? Here are the debug logs from TB2 comparing dovecot 2.0 (not working) and dovecot 1.2 (working): Dovecot 2.0: NA:CreateNewLineFromSocket: * OK [CAPABILITY IMAP4rev1

Replication -- multiple users, three or more servers?
...t;. I've read the wiki page (http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Replication), but I'm still confused. I'd love to see an example that clearly shows how to set up specific individual mail users to be replicated on a different set of servers for each user, like what I described above. Pros and cons of having folders under INBOX vs. not

Or will Dovecot be broken unless I recopy everything from scratch (with a command-line option to imapsync to put everything in the INBOX destination namespace)? Rich Wales richw at richw.org
