difference between the meaning of MARGIN in sweep() and apply()
...:2,FUN="-") [,1] [,2] [1,] 0 2 [2,] 1 3 [3,] 2 4 Is there a logic to this difference, or is it just a quirk of the history of these functions? ...istical package from the beginning. And although it should only maybe support 5% of the functionality of R, it would take a lot of time to do that. And I'd love to avoid that when good people has already done an amazing job :-). Cheers, Mikkel Meyer Andersen. Weibull Prediction?
I am trying to generate predictions from a weibull survival curve but it seems that the predictions assume that the shape(scale for survfit) parameter is one(Exponential but with a strange rate estimate?). Here is an examle of the problem, the smaller the shape is the worse the discrepancy. ### Set Parameters scale<-10 shape<-.85 ### Find Mean scale*gamma(1 + 1/shape) ### Simulate Data

update.packages on MS Windows with //server/share paths
...;\\Server02\stats\R\library\2.10\file3de56e0d\locfit' to '\\Server02\stats\R\library\2.10\locfit' The final, updated, folders do not end up where they should be. I can move them 'by hand', but it is an inconvenience. Checking the archives I find http://finzi.psych.upenn.edu/Rhelp08/2008-April/160963.html where Prof Ripley opines "The issue appears to be that your OS is garbling file names", and it surely does seem to be a filename problem - in combination R and Windows don't seem to be handling the '//server/share' path construction. I have: > .li...

Levels in returned data.frame after subset
Dear List, When I subset a data.frame, the levels are not re-adjusted (see example). Why is this? Am I missing out on some basic stuff here? Thanks Ulrik > m <- data.frame(gender = c("M", "M","F"), ht = c(172, 186.5, 165), wt = c(91,99, 74)) > dim(m) [1] 3 3 > levels(m$gender) [1] "F" "M" > s <- subset(m, m$gender ==

ddply function nesting problems
...d a bit of advice on the proper way to fix it.? I've tried several approahces, but neither worked and I need to have the ability to include the "cut", "range", and "fullseq" methods within ddply.? (For a bit of that explanation refer to http://finzi.psych.upenn.edu/Rhelp08/2009-February/187331.html) Thus, in order to preserve that functionality, and put my code within functions, I needed to have an architecture similar to the following implemented, where you end up running: function_nesting() Unfortunately this produced errors within the ddply where it does not app...

KS Test question (2)
Hi R Users, I have two vectors, x and y, of equal length representing two types of data from two studies. I would like to test if they are similar enough to use them interchangeably. No assumptions about distributions can be made (initial tests clearly show that they are not normal). Here some result: Two-sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov test data: x and y D = 0.1091, p-value < 2.2e-16 alternative

Displaying function arguments using a Windows R console
I am relatively new to R, and would appreciate any suggestions you may have. I noticed on a Mac the functions' arguments are listed at the bottom of the R console. Is it possible to add such a feature to a Windows R console? I have Windows XP if that helps. I know function arguments can be found using args(...), but I was wanting to have something more automatic, like what I saw on the Mac

Position of legend box
Good morning to you. I have about 4 different lines in one plot. I have used legend to indicate the colour of each plot. But the box contain the legend covers part of the lines thereby blurring the legend. There are some spaces in the plot that are empty and large enough to accommodate the legend box. If there a command I could use to set the position of the legend myself. I added the legend

What is the difference between anova {stats} and aov?
There are anova {stats} and aov in R. It seems that anova takes an object returned by a model fitting function. But I don't see any examples for anova. Can somebody give me a simple example on anova? What is the difference between anova and aov?
