Samba 3.0.11 on Red Hat RHAS3
To answer my own question of a week or so ago, as to whether RHAS3 users
had got 3.0.11 to compile and execute (I had a plethora of errors):
The Red Hat 3.0.11 SRPM from the Samba site compiled cleanly and runs fine
(daemons and utilities) on my RHAS3 test rig, and on a RHAS3 update 4
production NAS server doubling as a Samba 3 server with 1150+ users of

High load since passing from rhas3 to centos4.8
We are migrating HP servers from RHAS3 to centos 4.8. Since, the load average is reaching really high values. Under usage we see loads of 15-20 instead of the 0.5-1.5 we were used to.
I searched a lot for information on such an issue. Iostat, vmstat, top, ps. But I don't get significant hint.
Cpu usage remains low, IO wait remains l...

Basic problem with Samba 3.0.11 PDC on Samba Red Hat RHAS3 ACL srpm.
...of them haven't bothered to follow selected bits of the HOWTO.
However, the former excludes all references to the idealx scripts, which
I cannot use, since my DIT is set up completely differently from the
idealx concept. I write my own, disjointed, shell and awk OpenLDAP
scripts.
Neither on my RHAS3 test rig (config as above) nor production rig (75+
Win2000k things, config as above) have I experienced any problems.
Everything works as documented in the HOWTO. Including Cups printers
WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? Should I upgrade to 3.0.14a to experience real
major problems?
This is really scaring...

IBM BladeCenter HS20 blades
Greetings,
We have purchased an IBM BladeCenter and I am in the process of testing
Linux installation on these things (boot off SAN i.e. qla2300 driver,
not using internal drives). My distro of choice is Debian, however,
since I'm really not interested in trying to hand compile all the
drivers, I decided to try CentOS (which I'm so far very impressed with).
On boot, as with the

Does OCFS2 certified on RHAS3 and 2.1?
Hi All,
Is there any one know if OCFS2 will be certified on RedHat AS3 or 2.1? On
http://oss.oracle.com I see OCFS2 Beta is available for RHAS 4 only.
Rgds,
Huy.

...r of postings I've seen
about Samba's instability - i.e. run-away processes, profiles going
wrong, ACL problems and more.
My (high school) site with around 80 w2k workstations, of which maximum
40-50 are active all the time, chucked out the old NT4 PDC in April/May
last and is now running RHAS3/Samba 3.0.14a compiled on the Samba server
(no-one but root has a shell login and it's firewalled) from the Samba
org's Red Hat srpm - (as well as OpenLDAP 2.2.17) on an IBM 32-bit x

was around 40 days, the present uptime...

OT Windows policy question
List,
Thanks tremendously to JC and JHT for guiding (nay, kicking) me
toward getting ACLs to work on RHAS3. Reading the RH sysadmin guide
about ACLs and searching elsewhere, as well as thinking for myself,
were also a pre.
Now for something completely different:
High school in Amsterdam Netherlands:
- RHAS3
- Samba 3.0.11 RPC, not ADS (no way we're upgrading while the bug
reports keep pouring in)...

coreutils-4.5.3-28 causing duplication?
Here's a bit of a strange one. I hunted through the ocfs-users archives,
but didn't see any mention of this, so here goes...
Using coreutils 4.5.3-27 on RHAS 3, the utilities perform as expected
against non-OCFS volumes:
$ rpm -q coreutils
coreutils-4.5.3-27
# cat a 3 line test file. Works as expected
$ cat /var/tmp/file
line1
line2
line3
# copy that file. Works as expected
$ cp

Unable to delete a file...
Hello all,
I'm using OCFS version 1.0.15-PROD5 on RHAS3 Update 4. My RMAN script
for delete obsolete fails. Debugging problem I've found that is not
able to remove a file. Seems that this file is in use and any
operation is not possible.
Reading metalink I've found some docs about problem with cp/mv/dd/tar

RedHat EL 3 rpm spec file and samba 3.0.14a?
Is the RedHat RPM spec file included with the samba-3.0.14a.tar.gz source
files compatible with RedHat EL 3? In other words, are the locations for the
various support directories (/var/lib/samba, /var/cache/samba, etc.) the
same between the RedHat EL 3 version of samba (currently stuck at 3.0.9, I
think) and the official samba.org <http://samba.org> versions?
I would like to upgrade my

LDAP mailing list for ldapsam people
People,
I came to Samba 3 or 4 weeks ago and now have a successful ldapsam 3.0.11
PDC installation for 1150+ users (around 80 Win 2000 and XP workstations)
running together with a DHCP server as an "afterthought" service on a
RHAS3 NAS server.
I adopted/adapted my already existent Openldap (2.2.17) DSE at that site)
and wrote to this list about my experiences. For example I couldn't use
the samba-ldap tools, hadn't reached Appendix A of the Official Samba
HOWTO yet and had to reinvent the wheel (my solution turned ou...

Custom DomU kernel
...t,
I had Xen 3.0.2 (from the xensource.com binary packages) running on an
Ubuntu 6.06 (with a 2.6 kernel).
I made an image of a Redhat Advanced Server 3 that I boot fine; my problem
is that the RHAS DomU is booting on the Dom0 2.6 kernel where I would like
it to boot on the 2.4 kernel shipped with RHAS3.
I understand I need to build a custom 2.4 kernel patched with Xen, but how
do I do that? Do I build this from Dom0? Or DomU?
I guess that''s a common operation, as a lot of people are running different
kernels on their DomUs, but would anyone have pointers or advices on how to
proceed?

File listing problems in 3.0.13
Over the weekend I upgraded my IRIX servers to 3.0.13 and have found many
strange issues regarding the creation of new folders.
When I attempt to add a new folder through the Windows side I get an immediate
error dialog box stating "You may not be able to access file created in the
folder X:\New Folder."
When I select to continue the folder is created, looking on the IRIX side the

Openldap 2.2.23
Windows XP5 w/o patches Professional workstation.
Samba LDAP CNs and corresponding UIDs with spaces work. On my

directories get made automatically, correctly, at the first user logon.

Profiles permissions
Hi list,
Maybe this is a simple filesystem question.. but here it goes.
We have a samba-3.0.12 + LDAP domain, today a profile of mine got borked
it just stands there like it was loading but it freezes, I went to the
server and deleted the profile dir and on the workstation to start a new
one.
It worked as expected but now I see it was created with diferent perms
on 3.0.12
that with 3.0.10 ?

'username map' --> password(s)
Hello.
One of the advertised uses of the 'username map' smb.conf parameter is:
'to map multiple users to a single username so that they can more easily
share files.'
This sounds great, & is what I've wanted to do more than once.
However, there is the issue of the username mapping taking place before
the authentication.
This requires the individual users to give a

Problem with smbclient & RedHat EL 3 ES
Hi,
Last week I activate some script that use smbclient on my test server
(RedHat EL 3).
But when this script run, the kernel make a panic and display a Out of
Memory (OOM).
The first time, the process was killed is nscd, after I upgraded to kernel
2.6.11 and friday to 3.0.14a (before I use 3.0.13).
Now, it's the smbclient process which is killed by kernel.
I don't know if it's a
