2.0.7pre2: multihomed_register_name error
rh61, 2.2.14. The problem is in 2.0.6 also. 1st samba is wins server. 2nd samba uses the 1st samba as wins server. All is ok, but if I use interfaces = eth0 127.0.0.1 bind interfaces only = yes (is there anything wrong in the above lines?) in the 2nd samba, then I get the following in the log.nmb o...

The domain logon problem!
Hello! I used SAMBA for more than 4 years (on many different paltforms). I have problem with domain logons. The problem is: 1. On my network is one logon server (SAMBA 2.0.6 RH61) 2. I have more that +350 PC and +3500 users 3. domain logons works (they are correctly setup - on the same configuration I work in different network - no problem) 4. Problem is in them that sometimes the main SMBD (/var/lock/samba/smbd.pid) dissapears (sometimes = e.g. 1 time in two days) - how...

Domain logons working
I finally got the Domain logons working. I've even got a logon script happening. It's a pretty simple one: net use n: \\server\share (I've tried to start out slow) I have a x86 RH61 with 2.06. I'm working up towards roaming profiles. I have a few questions? Before I added the "logon drive = M:", it kept putting the home directory in Z: Does adding the [homes] section force NT to logon and map a home share. I guess I couldn't figure out why it was mapping...

Installation for a Newbie
Okay... Here's what I'm trying to do. I have an existing NT Domain with a PDC and I have a brand new Linux Box that I want to join that domain. I found the Docs and I read the Joining an NT Domain with Samba 2 file... I used SAMBA STATUS to ensure that the services were stopped. Then as per the docs I used: smbpasswd -j DOMAIN -r PDC And got the following... modify_trust_password:

2.0.7pre3: misc issues
My systems: rh61, 2.2.14 + smbfs-nls.patch. === 1) Samba seems to override unix permissions in a particular case. I get the very same behavior of: http://us1.samba.org/listproc/samba-technical/February2000/0476.html === 2) browsing behavior: anonymous login There is a different behavior doing smbclient -L -U% i...

IPMASQ and lock-up of all terminals
[mod: This is the second time in a week that someone asks this question: is it a new attack? It sure looks to me like "userland" has completely locked up, but that the kernel is still working. As an isolated case, my diagnosis is: You probably have a bad block in your /bin/login program or something like that. When two people report this in a week, it's starting to become unlikely

Browsing from NT 4.0
Hi James, One of the things that NT does different from WIN9x is that it attempts to 'browse' using a null session. This typically means that SAMBA is going to try to make the attachement for the 'null' username as SAMBA's guest account (by default 'nobody'). On a lot of HP systems the 'nobody' /etc/passwd entry is set as uid -2 and gid -2. These uid/gid

Samba 2.0.7pre2 snapshot released.
Hi all, I just released Samba 2.0.7pre2, available from : ftp://samba.org/pub/samba/alpha/samba-2.0.7pre2.tar.gz This is the second snapshot of the code that should become the official Samba 2.0.7 and is feature complete (ie. I'm only going to accept bug fixes, not more features). This is *not* production code, but should work well as a file and print server, and contains fixes for all
