hanging pxelinux.0 and menu.c32 on Dell 1850
Hello all.
I've got this weird problem. If I try to boot a simple menu using
syslinux's (v 3.09) pxelinux.0 and menu.c32 -files my Dell 1850 loses
the keyboard / hangs straight after loading menu.c32. The machine has to
be powered off completely.
I did some research and got it working by using menu.c32 v3.09 and
pxelinux.0 v3.07 -combo.
It seems that from version 3.08 on something has

RH4 EL and the latest ocfs2 source
it would seem that the future ocfs2 (0.99.16>) builds will not support =< 2.6.12 kernels "out of the box" or am i missing something? 0.99.13 will build with a RHEL4 kernel, but later vers fail with the configure check on generic_drop_inode. the patch to fix it seems simple enough, however it seems that even if this was an rpm, youd have to rebuild your kernel before proceeding.

CentOS 4.2: kernel version
Hello
Installing sw on a CentOS 4.2 (iso version) I notice that the kernel
version is
2.6.9-22.0.1.Elsmp
in RH4 UP2 the kernel version is 2.6.9-22.Elsmp
Some sw complain and check the kernel version.
Why this specific version extension 0.1 ?
Thanks for your help

NFS root mount problem
Hello. =)
I''m having a bit of trouble with my nfs xen installation and have
spent much time trying to research/figure out this problem with no
luck, so I''m hoping someone might be able to help me here. =)
I''ve successfully installed xen 3.02 on Linux RH4 on my Sun single proc
opteron v20z server.
I''ve installed what I believe to be a base Linux OS on a Netapp
partition
and am trying to create a subdomain referencing the netapp nfs mount.
The xm create dies with the following errors:

installing R with RPM
Hello,
We're installing R v.2.6 on HP Proliant 32-bit server and RedHat Enterprise Linux v.4 using the binaries and RPM's in CRAN in /bin/linux/redhat/el4/i386.
I could not find instructions on how to use the RPM's. I assume you issue:
rpm -i R-2.6.0-3.rh4.i386.rpm
rpm -i libRmath-2.6.0-3.rh4.i386.rpm
Is that all there is to it?
I ask the question because we're having trouble installing Bioconductor v.2.1 in R. Following the Bioconductor install instructions, the gcc/g++ compilers complain about incompatible R libraries, as in:
/usr/bin/ld: s...

puppet performance and inability to retrieve file metadata
Hey All,
I''m running into a problem whereby some nodes are struggling to retrieve the metadata for files. I''ve moved all the nodes across to 0.25.1 to try and eliminate version inconsistencies though they still appear. I''ve also started using asynchronous stored configs as well.
I''m wondering if this has anything to do with performance on the box and if there

ocfs2 filesystem seems out of sync
Hi there
I recently installed an OCFS2 filesystem on our FC-SAN. Everything
seemed to work fine and I could read & write the filesystem from both
servers that are mounting it. After a while though, writes coming from
one node do not appear on the other node and vice versa.
I am not sure what's causing this, and not very experienced at debugging
filesystems. If anybody has any

glibc errors related to nss_ldap or pam_ldap?
...r servers using LDAP. We have noticed that when a certain
LDAP group exceeds 65 users we begin seeing glibc errors for users in the
group. Users that are not in the group do not exhibit this behavior.
We have seen this issue on machines running Centos 4.5 x86 & x86_64 with
glibc-2.3.4-2.36 and RH4 x86_64 running glibc-2.3.4-2.25. We are running
Fedora Directory Server 1.0.4 on Centos 4.5. We have added a 3rd FDS slave
and turned up debugging but have not seen anything that appears to be
relevant in the logs on the 3rd slave.
This problem is not a 65 user limit as we have other groups with w...

SuperMicro with LSI MegaRaid with Centos 6.0
...inally tried to install 6.4, but the 6.4 install DVD does not
boot with this configuration.
See :
http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=5377
Fortunately, the 6.0 install DVD worked fine until it failed to identify
the hard disc controller. I checked the lsi.com site which had a driver
for RH 3 and RH4, but not 5 and not 6.
The interesting thing about this machine is that I had Centos 5.0
installed without difficulty (that over time upgraded to 5.9)
Does anyone have any idea of a driver I could use to get Centos 6.0 up
and running.
Thanks!!!!

Older 3ware controller, was: Serial ATA hardware raid.
...alade 7000/8000 series controllers use the same 64-bit ASIC, FPGA (field programmable) ATA logic and firmware.
This includes a 7.5 (was it?) release that added LBA48 (ATA-6) addressing and UDMA Mode 6 (U133) speed support.
Again., getting to 7.7.x should be a top priority - the RH3 and, especially, RH4 kernels have drivers that match these much newer 3Ware firmware-driver-3DM releaases.
FYI: For reference:

memory leaking?? kernel problem?
I would think someone would have noticed this in RHEL or CentOS if it was a pure kernel problem. What all are you running in the way of daemons? Something there could be to blame, no? Also, if the servers are identical in terms of software and hardware, have you considered a memory check? When I made the switch from Windows to Linux I discovered something interesting. Since Linux caches memory (as

Help with authenticating against Active Directory.
Hello all,
I'm trying to authenticate shell login's against an MS-ADS. I don't
have admin access to the ADS, but I can talk to the admins.
I have gotten as far as getting authentication working, but the uid's
depend on the order of login. ie: the first guy to login gets 10000,
the next gets 10001, etc. The problem I have with this is that I want
to share the home
