Making an official MIME type for FLAC?

pretty excited about the format, though.
I was wondering if there was any work being done, or
any interest at all, in officially registering a MIME
type for FLAC with the IETF. (The details on the
registration process can be found at
ftp://ftp.isi.edu/in-notes/rfc2048.txt)
Obviously something like "audio/flac" would be the
coolest way to go. :-) But registering that would
require some work--namely, writing up an RFC that
covers the definition of the FLAC format, and having
it peer-reviewed by the IETF. One other downside I

However, I have seen application/x-ogg used for ogg-vorbis files, which
is according to MIME type registration rules an unregistered and
experimental MIME type (see RFC2048) and seems to have worked so far for
ogg-based files. I understand your issues on having application/ogg as
an all-encompassing MIME type, as ogg by itself cannot determine the
further type of content included. Therefore your idea about having more
specific MIME types makes sense.
