KVM: bridge configuration for static IP address

xinetd v. tcp-wrappers
I am interested in opinions regarding the use of xinetd versus the use of tcp wrappers. The two programs have similar functionality, but I find xinetd suits my needs better. The biggest problem is the age of xinetd, and AFAIK it is no longer being kept up. Are there any known security issues with xinetd? Another issue is that xinetd makes use of a non-standard inetd.conf layout, but

...kernel is still working. As an isolated case, my diagnosis is: You probably have a bad block in your /bin/login program or something like that. I have a box setup that is pretty much only to do ipchains for a couple of computers behind it. This has occurred for me for both RH6.0 and now RH6.2 beta on an x86.. so-called snprintf() in db-1.85.4
Hi, There is a severe problem with the db-1.85.4 library''s Linux port that can be found on sunsite.unc.edu under /pub/Linux/libs/db-1.85.4-src.tar.gz (sp?): This library contains a "snprintf" function which breaks down to a common sprintf, ignoring the size parameter. Obviously, this was thought to be a terribly bad work-around for C libraries which don''t contain an

[Linux UID/GID ''Feature'']
...c/passwd file unrecognized so I could demonstrate the use of valid UIDs, I placed a # in front of the UID. My theory was that this would make it an invalid number and cause Linux to give an authentication failure. (This worked as expect on SunOS 4.1.4) But then we tried to su to that user and were rewarded by being dumped to UID 0. It didn''t recognize the UID so it defaulted to 0. Cool huh? It seems ideal for a hard to find, back door but given that you must be root to write to the passwd file, I have not found a better way to really exploit it. My friend replied: I did test the pro...

smbtar multiple machines
Hi all, I'm just looking at using smbtar to backup the Win95 PC's on my network, and would like usability ideas please. The tape drive I intend to use is in our RS6000 and has a capacity of 20GB before compression which means that I will be able to fit plenty of PC's onto one tape as all the PC's have <3GB HD's on them. The problem I have is how do I get multiple
