mounting nfs partition at boot.
This seems like another basic question because I always assumed that if I threw something in my /etc/fstab then it will be automatically mounted at boot time (unless I put in the 'noauto' option). But my NFS partition isn't getting mounted, here's the excerpt from my /etc/fstab file, split on the whitespace so it's easier to read: nfs_server:/exports/var/www /var/www nfs

Upgrading Drive, Best Practice?
Hi, This might sound like a n00b question, but I've honestly never done this with a Linux machine... (it is running Centos3) We have a 1U mail server with two 36GB SCSI drives in a hardware mirror config. There's no more room for any other drives in the case. It's filling up, so we now have two 74GB drives ready to take their place. Possible solutions that I've come up

Apache/PHP Security Help.
I have a personal apache/mail server that is getting hacked and I'm not sure how the person is getting in. What's happening is that every few days, the below script will show up in /tmp as 'dc.txt', owned by apache and then a TON of mail is queued up to a bunch of addresses in @uol.com.br. I initially thought they got in becuase I had an outdated version of 'gallery'

[OT] Corporate Firewall
Hey, The company I work for is in the market for a new firewall. Right now we're hosting all of our own stuff (on CentOS servers) behind an old checkpoint firewall. I think Checkpoint is overkill for our needs and very expensive, plus I don't like the "per-user" charges of some commercial solutions. What do you guys suggest that we upgrade to? Here are some of the

Centos 4.1 & ReiserFS
Hi, I'm upgrading my mail server tomorrow from CentOS 3 to CentOS 4.1. And I'd like to use ReiserFS this time around since everyone says it performs much better with smaller files (all the mail is in Maildir's instead of mbox'es). Right now I have a pretty basic filesystem layout: /boot, swap, and /. Am I making the correct assumption that I can't install CentOS with

OT: Security Consultant?
Hi, Does anyone have a recommendation for an outside security consulting firm? The one that my company used went under a few years ago. I've been managing everything since then, but I don't have that much time and I'd like to get an "expert" opinion. Thanks, Ajay

blocking outgoing ports with iptables
Hi, I'm using the generic system-config-securitylevel-tui program on a remote server to configure my firewall. So far it's been fairly decent, allowing me to open up ports and whatnot. But I want to start blocking a couple of outgoing ports on my machine. I want to lock it down so the only traffic going in our out of my machine is stuff that I specify. Is there a way to do this

Can't install CentOS4
Hi everyone, My email server is running CentOS 3 and I can't upgrade it to CentOS 4 using the CD's. At first I thought it was the old Megaraid card (that's no longer supported), so I replaced that with a new card. I've tried ISO's from CentOS 4, 4.1 and now 4.2 which I've tested and booted in other machines. Just not this one. I've never had a problem like this
