Suddenly can''t access the puppetmaster anymore
Hi, I have a number of puppets talking to 1 puppetmaster. Everything was working fine until suddenly this week the puppets are revolting. Whenever I try to run ''puppetd -v'' I see a lot of messages like: Certificates were not trusted: hostname was not match I''m sure I did not make any changes to DNS lately and I didn''t upgrade puppet on any of the machines (actually I did that now on one of...

...some functionality can only be implemented (at least in a practical fashion) in PID 1. Would you rather a bunch of that "magic" of PID 1 that systemd handles get shoved into the kernel (so that PID 1 isn't so special)? > Just what is Fedora's and Red Hat's Plan B when the revolt against > systemd escalates ? Whom is going to apologise for fouling-up Red > Hat's EL and our beloved Centos ? Yawn. I haven't seen that there's a "revolt" except for a vocal minority. Some of the "no change" arguments sound very much similar to the SELin...

1.4 sounds long space before and after prompt
...y ...... second Under the old sound files, this continuity was still a little long, but workable. The new sound files make these positively sound like a computer playing individual files rather than a continuous sentence. If I release these sound files as they are to my users, they are going to revolt. They already complain about the old Octel VM system prompts being played back too slowly and these are much slower than that. I mentioned this a while back when the new sounds were in beta, but haven't seen anything more about it. So either this says something about my and my users' lev...

long delay when connecting to samba server
...Network Places. samba server appears as expected. double-clicking on the samba server causes a delay of approximately one minute before share drives are listed. Once the shares are listed, browsing is very fast. I am VERY confused by this behavior. I need to resolve it quickly. My users are revolting! What might cause such a huge delay in accessing Samba? My env uses an Active Directory server for authentication, and so I am running smbd, nmbd, and winbindd. I have cranked up the log level to see a lot of action in the log files. I attempted a connection on 2007/10/30 at 10:32:07....

the nsw story, revisited
...safe. - Give up on nsw and have compilers emit warnings when they are unable to perform some optimization due to their inability to exclude the possibility of overflow. Obviously the warnings would not be on by default, or even -Wall or probably even -Wextra, so -Werror users need not revolt. Many people are often faced with code that they cannot modify for any number of reasons, and would not be able to make use of such warnings. It's an interesting tradeoff, but it's unpopular. Unfortunately, none of these are completely nice and pretty. Because of this, and because mo...

Some architecture questions for my mongrelian friends
Hey, I''m working on a project, and mongrel may be part of the stack, but I''ve got some more general questions and ideas I''m hoping to run by this list. The people on this list have a broader knowledgebase and more experience than any place else I know - plus a general friendliness and willingness to help! I''m working with a company who has a really antique
