DO NOT REPLY [Bug 3596] New: rsync fails to retouch S_IWUSR when transferring a single empty directory
...By: hashproduct@verizon.net
QAContact: rsync-qa@samba.org
Run the following in an empty directory:
mkdir test
chmod 400 test
rsync --dirs --perms test test2
test2 incorrectly ends up with 600 permissions because rsync sees that a local
name is in use and assumes the directory retouching phase is unnecessary.
rsync should run the phase anyway and deal with a local name if there is one.

pdf() device uses fonts to represent points - data alteration?
Hello all,
I discovered that the pdf device uses fonts to represent "points"
symbols (as in plot(...,type="p",...) ). Namely it uses ZapfDingbats
with symbol U+25cf. This can lead to problems when the font is not
available, or available in another version (such as points being
replaced by other symbols, or worst: slightly displaced).
Furthermore, it also causes

...3D-ish style. Therefor, I played a bit around with Inkscape and
made an R logo according to the Tango Icon Theme Guidelines
<http://tango.freedesktop.org/Tango_Icon_Theme_Guidelines>. It is in SVG
format, and therefor scalable, but optimized for 48x48 and larger.
Smaller sizes might need some retouching to stay sharp.
Not everybody might feel about the R logo as I do, so this is in no way
an attempt to replace the current logo. But maybe somebody likes the
look of my new logo and wants to use it as an icon or something.

CVS rsync is failing the fuzzy test intermittently on my computer.
The log is attached. I'm guessing rsync isn't retouching directory
times when it should.

Problem with permissions
I'm trying to set up a full server backup using rsync 3.0.6. I'm using
--fake-super, and SSH keys to access a remote server as a normal user.
My problem is that there is a local directory that has permissions 0111
("d--x--x--x"), and rsync throws an error trying to set the xattr:
rsync: failed to read xattr user.rsync.%stat for "/roach/backup/root/tcb/lib":

Done,
anybody can send me his logo and I promise to publish it on my page

Thanks.
P.S. I used OpenOffice Draw because Sodipodi does no yet support grids
which I need badly for my designs (I have some AutoCAD backgroup and I
am a very technical guy, apart from that I love Sodipodi and in fact the
SVG on my site has been retouched with it).

[Bug 13385] New: rsync sometimes silently transfers more or fewer mtimes than it should
...es which make rsync behave completely
erratically. I think I have narrowed it down to the following points:
* --modify-window with positive values is completely ignored. I have therefore
marked this as a regression.
* --size-only seems to only compare full seconds.
* rsync can encounter errors when retouching directories, but does not report
them.
* The output of --itemize-changes gives the user a false sense of security: It
shows exactly what you would expect rsync to do, but not what it actually does.
Steps to reproduce the first point (--modify-window is ignored):

barplot question
Dear r-help members.
I would like to:
a) control the margin around my legend box. Unfortunately I did not find an appropriate command under "?legend". The margin around the actual legend is way too wide. There is a lot of unnecessary "empty space" on the right side.
b) increase the width of the individual barplots. I saw that this can be obtained with the command

Interesting piece. This is the second post from Yager that shows
solaris in a pretty good light. I particularly like his closing
comment:
