smbd crash
A few times in the last couple months we have had our production Samba
3.0.14a-1server crash. We did not have detailed logging turned on at
the time so the attached output of our log is the best process tracking
I can give at the time of the crash.
What will happen is our shares will no longer be accessible, and all the
smbd processes will be hung. We can ssh to the server and do a restart

how to sum multiple data entries for the same sampling event?
I'm having trouble with some catch per unit effort data (CPUE, fisheries
data). Some of the samples were "retained" and some "unretained," and they
are entered as 2 separate entries for the same sampling event (Date and
time). I want to calculate the total CPUE (so sum the "retained" and
"unretained" number for each sampling event) and am having troubld

Composite retained drawing protocol
I've recently drafted a rough idea of a composite manager agnostic
protocol for leveraging the compositor for retained drawing in a way
suitable for highly interactive and flexible applications.
It seems to be that for anything like this to be a success it would
have to be developed with the support of multiple window managers, and
I would appreciate any feedback, ideas, and contributions to

Mac OSX doesn't retain file timestamp when copying to SAMBA share
Hi All,
I'm not sure what's causing this but every time I copy a file from one
of the Macs (details below) to the Samba server the file timestamp is
changed to the copy time rather than retaining the last modified time.
Does anyone know what could be causing this?
Systems:
Mac OSX (versions 10.3.x -> 10.4.x)
Windows 2000 Professional
Solaris 10 running Samba 3.0.11
Tests...
Mac OSX -> Mac OSX retains timestamp
Mac OSX -> W2K share retains timestamp

A Tip: lm, glm, and retained cases
Hi Folks,
This tip is probably lurking somewhere already, but I've just
discovered it the hard way, so it is probably worth passing
on for the benefit of those who might otherwise hack their
way along the same path.
Say (for example) you want to do a logistic regression of a
binary response Y on variables X1, X2, X3, X4:
GLM <- glm(Y ~ X1 + X2 + X3 + X4)
Say there are 1000 cases in the

vesamenu.c32 retain image
Hello.
vesamenu.c32 can currently display a PNG image along the menu.
But when the kernel is started, the image is lost.
LILO supports bmp-retain option, where the bitmap graphic is retained
when control is passed to the loaded kernel image; i.e., the screen is
not blanked to alphanumeric mode before starting the kernel.
Is it possible for vesamenu.c32 (or syslinux in general) to support

Marking messages read / retaining date with Sieve
I'm trying to mark several hundred thousand messages as read as they are delivered via dovecot-lda(1). (I'm importing some mail from another format for migration purposes.)
I've been able to do this with Sieve, but it has the side effect that the messages' received and saved dates are set to the current date, and Apple Mail (at least) uses one of these to display the message date.

/var/spool/samba full of print jobs
Hi,
madly looking for an answer to this but haven't
found it in the smb.conf man pages yet...
I'm using samba for my print server. I use
printing = cups with samba.
Currently it looks like all print jobs
are being retained in /var/spool/samba and
it has just filled my var fs :-( and no
one can print. I can't seem to find
any parameters associated with pruning
the jobs, or how long

CallerID retain on internal transfer
I was just looking through the Wiki for some info on how to retain the
original caller's callerid when make transfers to internal extensions, and I
came across the parameter below:
useincomingcalleridonzaptransfer=yes
There is nothing in the zapata.conf file from vers. 1.2.7 so I am wondering
if this is still a valid parameter. If not, does anyone know how I can do
this?
Thanks,
Joe

[PATCH] export retained initrd in debugfs
Export initrd in debugfs when retained.
As a side effect, initrd_start and initrd_end are not cleared when the
initrd is retained.
After this patch, one can then copy the initrd space from debugfs and
pass it to kexec as the initrd, or do something else with it (maybe it
was an initrd not an initramfs).

"WARNING: failed verification -- update retained (will try again)" message
Hi there!
On a daily backup script, I am getting a lot of these messages:
WARNING: <filename> -- update retained (will try again).
I've tried googling, but i can't figure out what these messages exactly
mean and how i can solve them.
Any hint?
Thank you

Retain only those records from a dataframe that exist in another dataframe
Dear R community,
I have two dataframes "first" and "second" which share a unique identifier.
I wish to make a new dataframe "third" retaining only the rows in
"first" which also occur in "second".
I have tried using merge but can't seem to figure it out. Any ideas?
Thanks!

aggregate() naming -- bug or feature
In the examples below, the first loses the name attached by foo(), the second retains names attached by bar(). Is this an intentional difference? I?d prefer that the names be retained in both cases.
foo <- function(x) { c(mean = base::mean(x)) }
bar <- function(x) { c(mean = base::mean(x), sd = stats::sd(x))}
aggregate(iris$Sepal.Length, by = list(iris$Species), FUN = foo)

Meaning of "failed verification -- update retained (will try again)."
Mostly it means that the file rsync ended up with on the target end
didn't match the file on the source it started with. This is mostly
caused by the file being modified on the source while rsync is copying
it but it can also be a memory corruption problem.

How do I retain "POSIXct" formatting when using apply, with FUN=max?
