Back again, and resuscitated libmenu patches
I've finally gotten back to my work on syslinux, and I've updated the patches I have for the advanced menu system and for COM32 to apply against the current git tree. I've got ten patches - mostly bug fixes, but a few are for additional COM32 or menu functionality. I've got them checked into a local git repository - what is the best way for me to pass them along?

belongs_to and multiple foreign keys
Hi all, I''m confused about how I''m supposed to specify a belongs_to relationship when the table includes multiple columns that reference the same parent table. In my case I have a "schedules" table with "opened_by" and "closed_by" columns, that both reference the "users" table. In theory, they can be two different user ids. table

Best Axxium Pro, Model Series 0650?
Hi There, We have this rather large-ish floor-standing Best Axxium Pro, Model Series 0650. I tried using both the "bestups" and "blazer_ser" drivers with it, but no go. So before I go any further: *Should* one of these work with it and, if not, do I have any options? (E.g.: Modify a current driver, resuscitate one that was started and abandoned, etc.? I can code.) My test

Strange and complete failure of Asterisk 1.8
Hi all We've had a very strange failure on an Asterisk 1.8 install that has been running for about a year at a customer site. The physical hardware is fine, all other services off the Centos 6.5 server are running. Only Asterisk is not working... The first symptom was that no calls can be made over the SIP phones used with it, and no calls could be received over the SIP trunk connected to

C7 basic install, HATE
...nd hour round trip? RHEL drops old hardware constantly, roughly aligning with its ~10 year support window. It doesn?t surprise me that the early Matrox cards have fallen out of support by now. The last such deprecation to bite me was the 3ware 8000 series cards, last supported on EL5 or 6. When resuscitating such systems, we either have to stick with the old OS or upgrade them to 9000 series cards ? which won?t attach 8000 series RAID sets ? or switch array technologies entirely. Doubtless you can throw heroic efforts at getting old X drivers to build with current software, but is that a good use of y...

CentOS-7 problem
I installed CentOS-7 on an HP MicroServer from a KDELiveCD (on a USB stick), and it ran OK for a couple of days; but yesterday it wouldn't reboot - the dots went round the circle indefinitely, and when I clicked on Ctrl-Alt-Delete it said "[OK] Reached target Initrd Default Target". There didn't seem to be any way to reboot except to press the power button. I tried running

Strange and complete failure of Asterisk 1.8
DNS failure could do this Asterisk used to get stuck in a symmetric DNS request wait state which meant everything ground to a halt as it waited for a reply while DNS timed out. The recommended option was either ip only or a DNS proxy that failed fast this letting asterisk continue Cheers Duncan > On 27/05/2015, at 11:55 pm, Stefan Viljoen <viljoens at verishare.co.za> wrote: >

Removing silence at the start and end of sample encoded
Hi, Speex is great! We are using it to compress hundreds of megabytes of speech for use in our application that trains people in resuscitation. The previous version of our product used Ogg Vorbis, but after switching to Speex, we achieve fantastic compression, while retaining super quality. That allows us to cram more translated versions of the software onto each CD-ROM, making everything

centos driver disk?
the recent discussion of support for Promise SATA drives reminded me that a while back i remember reading about a project to assemble a driver disk to provide wider hardware support than just stock CentOS. how's that coming along? i don't see anything in the wiki about it... as i have a vested interest in this project (since i'm still relying on old MegaRAID controllers),

Re : asterisk-users] Strange and complete failure of Asterisk 1.8
Well, I had exactly the same issue as you described. It turned out to be a piece of malicious software that was running on the server. The customer server was compromised due to a weak root password and only Asterisk process was the target of the malicious program that was embedded deep into the server. The exact details escape me, but I do remember that it took more than two days of tracing

Question on EATON UPS
Sounds like some other program is holding the port. Have you stopped other NUT drivers for the device (e.g. via auto-resuscitating services) before starting this one? Does udev, ugen or similar facility have the configuration to hand off this device to NUT run-time user? (BTW, if you are now testing a custom build - was it configured to use same accounts as pre-packaged variant)? On Fri, Mar 24, 2023, 18:46 Laurent Taieb <...

Removing silence at the start and end of sample encoded
Actually, there are probably some batch programs that could do the job. It's definitely not a job for speexenc, which I'd like to keep simple. NUT and Eaton UPS produce a lot of error messages
Thanks for the info! First, regarding the later detail about starting `usbhid-ups`: the "Resource busy" indicates that likely an earlier instance of the NUT driver (in its own service unit) is still running and holding the device. In a worse case, some other programs might consider this a HID device (same class family as keyboards and mice) and grab it somehow, or it gets passed through

Back-up connection
Some weeks ago, I asked if anyone had set up a backup scheme for a remote server. By backup here, I mean an alternative arrangement that can be called upon if eg the DSL connection to the remote machine fails. I received one interesting reply: ====================== At home, besides my fixed lines, I have two gsm-modems, one low-speed (that came free of charge with one of my fixed lines), the

But an unexpected one: in well-designed and matched protocol environments, if you expect to see some array of differing protocols, you will also see an easy way of discerning those protocols from each
