Back again, and resuscitated libmenu patches
I've finally gotten back to my work on syslinux, and I've updated the patches I have for the advanced menu system and for COM32 to apply against the current git tree. I've got ten patches - mostly bug fixes, but a few are for additional COM32 or menu functionality. I've got them checked into a local git repository - what is the best way for me to pass them along?

belongs_to and multiple foreign keys
Hi all, I''m confused about how I''m supposed to specify a belongs_to relationship when the table includes multiple columns that reference the same parent table. In my case I have a "schedules" table with "opened_by" and "closed_by" columns, that both reference the "users" table. In theory, they can be two different user ids. table

Best Axxium Pro, Model Series 0650?
...rather large-ish floor-standing Best Axxium Pro, Model Series 0650. I tried using both the "bestups" and "blazer_ser" drivers with it, but no go. So before I go any further: *Should* one of these work with it and, if not, do I have any options? (E.g.: Modify a current driver, resuscitate one that was started and abandoned, etc.? I can code.) My test platform was nut 2.4.3-1ubuntu3.2 under Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on a laptop. I have confirmed the serial port works. I used a 9-pin null modem adapter, as both the laptop and Axxium Pro were transmitting on pin 3. Thanks, Jim -- Note: My...

Strange and complete failure of Asterisk 1.8
...led asterisk binary has the SAME SHA256 checksum as the non-working asterisk binary. System seems fine otherwise, nothing relevant in /var/log/messages or dmesg indicating a hardware failure. /var/log/asterisk/messages also contains no strange warnings or errors. Anybody got any idea why I cannot resuscitate my Asterisk install, even after recompiling it from scratch from source? Why would asterisk die like this in the first place? Thanks

CentOS-7 problem
...tton. I tried running the rescue kernel, but that didn't help. I tried installing the netinstall iso on a USB stick, and choosing the repair option - this ran ok, and I was able to run grub2-install, but this failed to boot as before. I'm wondering if there is anything else I could do to resuscitate the system? Fortunately, I kept the old 6.5 system in another partition, which I am using now. -- Timothy Murphy e-mail: gayleard /at/ eircom.net School of Mathematics, Trinity College, Dublin 2, Ireland

Removing silence at the start and end of sample encoded
Hi, Speex is great! We are using it to compress hundreds of megabytes of speech for use in our application that trains people in resuscitation. The previous version of our product used Ogg Vorbis, but after switching to Speex, we achieve fantastic compression, while retaining super quality. That allows us to cram more translated versions of the software onto each CD-ROM, making everything

centos driver disk?
the recent discussion of support for Promise SATA drives reminded me that a while back i remember reading about a project to assemble a driver disk to provide wider hardware support than just stock CentOS. how's that coming along? i don't see anything in the wiki about it... as i have a vested interest in this project (since i'm still relying on old MegaRAID controllers),

Question on EATON UPS
Sounds like some other program is holding the port. Have you stopped other NUT drivers for the device (e.g. via auto-resuscitating services) before starting this one? Does udev, ugen or similar facility have the configuration to hand off this device to NUT run-time user? (BTW, if you are now testing a custom build - was it configured to use same accounts as pre-packaged variant)? On Fri, Mar 24,

Removing silence at the start and end of sample encoded
Actually, there are probably some batch programs that could do the job. It's definitely not a job for speexenc, which I'd like to keep simple. Question on EATON UPS
I?m making some progress I believe? I switched off and switched on the UPS further to the laptop having started the daemon and I?m not getting the same error message which is probably due to the server working in the background still locking the device I think the daemon starts but gets into an infinite loop and doesn?t finish and hand back control. Here are the updated traces I got by

Question on EATON UPS
Also, just in case - are you in a virtualized environment? Is there (intentional or not) USB pass-through to the UPSes? My hint is, we had cases where a host or guest grabbed the device but it was not apparent from the part of system running NUT. NUT and Eaton UPS produce a lot of error messages
...newly made devfs node is owned by `root` and `udev` did not have time to hand it off to `nut`, so the NUT driver can not re-attach); * fault of `nut-driver*` causes `nut-server` to stop (shouldn't, but might, happen... at least fits the symptoms you've posted earlier) * the `nut-driver` is resuscitated by systemd after some RestartSec timeout * dependency for `nut-server` is healthy so it is started up again * thinking of it, maybe the last couple of steps is almost concurrent: as soon as systemd launched the driver process, its unit is considered healthy, so the data server starts; however the...

Back-up connection
Some weeks ago, I asked if anyone had set up a backup scheme for a remote server. By backup here, I mean an alternative arrangement that can be called upon if eg the DSL connection to the remote machine fails. I received one interesting reply: ====================== At home, besides my fixed lines, I have two gsm-modems, one low-speed (that came free of charge with one of my fixed lines), the

adwantages of ogg container?
...shoudln't have been a surprise, because it was an implementation choice to the contrary, very simple and low overhead, minimum latency, streaming multimedia multiplexing end of the spectrum. Personally, I think Ogg is a multiplexing framework which is right now dead, and perhaps should be resuscitated when IPv6 multicast finally covers some ground. As a file format, I wouldn't go with it -- but then I'd seriously consider reimplementing all of its unique features, because as an architecture, it's *extremely* well thought out, and has some unique benefits. Typing of flows and oth...
