Bacula Restore
Hi list, another question about bacula, but this time about restoring backups. I've a server that I must backup every day. My plan is: from mon to sat incrimental backup and on sunday full backup. When I will perform a restore I must restore from last valid full backup and then all valid incremental backup from last backup to specific date. This server has...

AD Backup Best Practice
...;ll use to do the restore is also in the directory you just renamed. Probably a better solution would be for the restore tool to move the sub-directories it's going to restore first. i.e. automatically move /usr/local/samba/private to /usr/local/samba/private-old. >> Are you saying that restoring to a "new DC" is as simple as changing the >> hostname of "DC1" to "DC1_1"? DNS, GPO, smb.conf would all >> automatically refer to the new hostname after the restore? So, a restore should be similar in functionality to a 'domain join', i.e. the hos...

Can not restore domain from a shared state file
Hi, I have two KVM host: h1 and h2, both of them mount an NFS directory as a shared storage. I can save (virsh save <domain> <file>) a domain in h1 to a state file in the shared storage successfully, but failed to restore it from h2 with the following error message: # virsh restore testRes.dat error: Failed to restore domain from testRes.dat error: operation failed: failed to start VM

samba acl restore error
Dear Jeremy and samba team , This is suresh from EMC.I am having samba 3.4.8 on my NAS with posix acls support. When a backup software backs up files and folders, it typically backs up the security settings on the files/folders too. Then during restore, the software will try to restore the files/folders along with their security settings. The restore is now broken because security settings

Help with dump/restore
...iew of the log file claims all went well. Now for the restore... I just tried playing with different options of restore, but could not successfully restore anything. I ensured I was in a scratch area so as to hopefully not overwrite current files. What is the proper procedure for dumping and restoring now? Should I be dumping to /dev/nst0/dump? What restore commands would I use to recall a file? I'd like to keep things as simple as possible - people have suggested legato and amanda, but for now, I would think/hope dump and restore would work. Thanks. Scott

file-attr-restore and dollar signs
Hi All, I've been using the great file-attr-restore script with rsync to get around problems with uid's on a portable hard drive... It's the perfect solution for me. (for those that haven't seen it,you can get it here: http://samba.org/ftp/unpacked/rsync/support/file-attr-restore ) Anyway, I found a small bug in the script. file-attr-restore fails for file names with dollar

XEN 4.3.0: Hanging xl restore processes after reboot
Hello all, after XEN 4.3.0 with Kernel 3.10.9 has restored suspended (saved) Domains there are still some processes around which from my point of view should have disappeared after restoring. This entries are still in the Process list: root 3347 1 0 09:30 ? 00:00:00 /usr/local/sbin/xl restore /var/lib/xen/save/frntsrv01-v7 root 3737 1 0 09:30 ? 00:00:00 /usr/local/sbin/xl restore /var/lib/xen/save/srcsrv01-v5 Does somebody knows why this happens or f...

HVM restore broken?
I got latest (13601) yesterday evening. This doesn''t seem to work to do Restore (at least of the Windows test-image that I''ve been using for testing previously). The VM restores reasonably OK, but it jumps to an invalid address shortly after restoring, giving a D1 blue-screen error (DRIVER_IRQL_LESS_OR_EQUAL), which turns out to be "page-fault in driver" after I looked at the memory dump in windbg. (The address it jumps to is consistenly a0000ca5, if that''s of any meaning to anyone). I''ve compared my svm.c that I ha...

Unreliable ZFS backups or....
...ute offline backups. And although you can keep quite some snapshots lying about it will consume diskspace, one of the reasons why people also keep offline backups. However, while you can make one using ''zfs send'' it somewhat worries me that the only way to perform a restore is by restoring the entire filesystem (/snapshot). I somewhat shudder at the thought of having to restore /export/home this way to retrieve but a single file/directory. Am I overlooking something here or are people indeed resorting to tools like tar and the likes again to overcome all this? In my opinion ufsdump...

AD Backup Best Practice
I'm currently reviewing my own backup strategy for Samba and I realize it is not in line with best practices provided in the Wiki. ( https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Back_up_and_Restoring_a_Samba_AD_DC) Said best practices, however, seem a bit like a nightmare to me. Assuming the AD is gone and you want to restore just one DC, and you want things to look just as they did before the crash, the process according to the Wiki looks as follows: 1. Install a Samba DC on a new (!) tempor...

Samba AD - two servers - backup and restore AD procedure
Hi All! I would be grateful for clarification of my doubts about backups and restoration of the AD environment. What is the best strategy for backing up and restoring a Samba AD domain in the following scenarios: * server1 - active directory service (7 FSMO roles) * server2 - active directory service + Samba file server The considered disaster recovery scenarios are: - Corruption of the AD database on server1 due to an electrical surge and an uncontrolle...
