Hi list, another question about bacula, but this time about restoring backups. I've a server that I must backup every day. My plan is: from mon to sat incrimental backup and on sunday full backup. When I will perform a restore I must restore from last valid full backup and then all valid incremental backup from last backup to specific date. This server has aweb managed application where

AD Backup Best Practice
...unteer to help test this? i.e. clone a development git branch, build the source, and try out the backup/restore tool? >> you *must not* specify a DC that has previously existed The restore process currently works like this: 1. The backed up database (which still contains all the old DCs) is restored to disk. 2. The new DC is added to the database. 3. All the previous DCs are removed from the database. Note that: - #3 has to happen to ensure the restored domain doesn't try to communicate with the old/failed domain (just in case you forgot to switch off a DC). - The DC added in #2 will alwa...

Can not restore domain from a shared state file
Hi, I have two KVM host: h1 and h2, both of them mount an NFS directory as a shared storage. I can save (virsh save <domain> <file>) a domain in h1 to a state file in the shared storage successfully, but failed to restore it from h2 with the following error message: # virsh restore testRes.dat error: Failed to restore domain from testRes.dat error: operation failed: failed to start VM

[PATCH] PCI: Reprogram bridge prefetch registers on resume
...hese registers in > pci_restore_config_dword, like Windows does? That sounds reasonable to me. We did write them unconditionally, prior to 04d9c1a1100b ("[PATCH] PCI: Improve PCI config space writeback") [1]. That commit apparently fixed suspend on some laptop. But at that time, we restored the config space in order of dword 0, 1, 2, ... 15, which means we restored the command register before the BARs and windows, and it's conceivable that the problem was the ordering, not the rewriting of the same value. Only a week later, we reversed the order with 8b8c8d280ab2 ("[PATCH] P...

...ort. When a backup software backs up files and folders, it typically backs up the security settings on the files/folders too. Then during restore, the software will try to restore the files/folders along with their security settings. The restore is now broken because security settings cannot be restored any more. Help with dump/restore
So I recently installed an Overland Arcvault 12 tape library on a server to back up /var/log/ and /home. The server is an out-of-box RHEL 5 install, with all packages selected, in an isolated lan, with no package updates. Also, this is a live server that cannot be brought down for backups, and some files may be actively in use during the dump - just gotta live with it. Since I know EL5 and

file-attr-restore and dollar signs
Hi All, I've been using the great file-attr-restore script with rsync to get around problems with uid's on a portable hard drive... It's the perfect solution for me. (for those that haven't seen it,you can get it here: http://samba.org/ftp/unpacked/rsync/support/file-attr-restore ) Anyway, I found a small bug in the script. file-attr-restore fails for file names with dollar

HVM restore broken?
I got latest (13601) yesterday evening. This doesn''t seem to work to do Restore (at least of the Windows test-image that I''ve been using for testing previously). The VM restores reasonably OK, but it jumps to an invalid address shortly after restoring, giving a D1 blue-screen error (DRIVER_IRQL_LESS_OR_EQUAL), which turns out to be "page-fault in driver" after I

Unreliable ZFS backups or....
...ng here or are people indeed resorting to tools like tar and the likes again to overcome all this? In my opinion ufsdump / ufsrestore was a major advantage over tar and I really would consider it a major drawback if that would be the only way to backup data in such a way where it can be more easily restored. AD Backup Best Practice
I'm currently reviewing my own backup strategy for Samba and I realize it is not in line with best practices provided in the Wiki. ( https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Back_up_and_Restoring_a_Samba_AD_DC) Said best practices, however, seem a bit like a nightmare to me. Assuming the AD is gone and you want to restore just one DC, and you want things to look just as they did before the crash, the

[PATCH] PCI: Reprogram bridge prefetch registers on resume
...So it didn't restore 0x28 (the magic register) and also register 0x2c (prefetch limit upper 32 bits) because their values were already 0 on resume. https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=116851#c23 has an assertion that Intel recognises this issue and calls for all those registers to be restored on resume. I propose for Linux 4.19 we apply a minimally intrusive change that "forcibly" restores dword registers 0x24, 0x28 and 0x2c for PCI bridges (regardless of their current value), while retaining the existing restore order (high to low) over all registers and doing the read-then-...

Samba AD - two servers - backup and restore AD procedure
Hi All! I would be grateful for clarification of my doubts about backups and restoration of the AD environment. What is the best strategy for backing up and restoring a Samba AD domain in the following scenarios: * server1 - active directory service (7 FSMO roles) * server2 - active directory service + Samba file server The considered disaster recovery scenarios are: - Corruption of the AD
