createrepo command for 6.4 respin
Hi List, I have been searching for the correct createrepo command to make a 6.4 respin. We have been doing this with previous versions using createrepo -u "media://$discinfo" -g ${DIR}/my_kickstart${VER}/comps.xml . Which had worked fine until now. kernel.org kernel in CentOS respin.
...List, I found these wonderful instruction by Alan Bartlett (thanks Alan) for building a kernel.org kernel that would install on CentOS 5.5. Doing this and moving the resulting .rpm to the target system and doing a rpm -ivh ... works great. Now I am trying to use the same rpm as part of a CentOS respin and the installation fails miserably leaving me with a unbootable system. Using the rescue option I see the following in my install log. Installing kernel-2.6.32.23-1.i386 /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.24949: line 1: uname: command not found /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.24949: line 1: uname: command not found /var/tmp/rp...

Custom respin ISO prompting for discs
I'm creating a custom install / respin ISO with updated packages and a kickstart - starting from CentOS 6.5 minimal install DVD. I'm generally following the directions from http://smorgasbork.com/component/content/article/35-linux/128-building-a-custom-centos-6-kickstart-disc-part-1 . I can create the iso, boot, have it find the in...

What RH-like on a Dell XPS 15 (9590)?
...e, I've just got a Dell XPS 15 (9590) at work and need to set up a stable GNU/Linux system on it. I thought of CentOS7, but.. obviously its kernel can't run on this hardware. What would you recommend? Waiting for CentOS8 is not an option unless it's a question of few weeks. Are there respins of the CentOS7 DVDs w/ more top-recent kernels? I'm know of Fedora 26 or course, and not willing to switch to Ubuntu 16.10 at all. Regards, -- wwp -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Custom kickstart post section on usb thumbdrive
Hi All, I am attempting to create a custom USB drive for kickstart install. I found this: 1. get the ISO file of CentOS 7 2. mount -o loop CentOS-7.0*.iso /mnt/ 3. mkdir -p /CentOS-7-ISO-respin/{CentOS-7-unpacked,CentOS-7-iso} 4. rsync -avz /mnt/ /CentOS-7-ISO-respin/RHEL-7-unpacked 5. put your kickstart file into /CentOS-7-ISO-respin/RHEL-7-unpacked 6. add a new line to /CentOS-7-ISO-respin/RHEL-7-unpacked/isolinux/isolinux.cfg (this way...

Newbie Questions
Recent convert from WhiteBox, a few questions What is the difference between CentOS 4.2 and "4"? Is this like the Whitebox "respin"? Are updates/packages for 4.2 applicable across all the "4" series of releases? -Ben -- "The best way to predict the future is to invent it." - XEROX PARC slogan, circa 1978

I see no mention of CMake in the release notes. Could it be that you simply forgot to add it? Regards, Kevin André

linuxthreads & Printers in Centos5...
Dear All, Firstly, many thanks for the hard work put in by the development team :) Now I have a couple of problems, any help welcome: 1) Some of our software needs linuxthreads (i.e. InsightII) but it's closed source and the writers (Accelrys) are unlikely to respin the code as they want us to move to a different program. Is there any way of installing another set of glibc libs on centos 5, to allow an old, broken, but uselful program to run? 2) As part of my setup script for centos 4, I add a large list of printers to each workstation by using system-...

Building CentOS 6.2 custom install media
Hi, For the OLPC school server ("XS") we are planning to move from our dated F9 setup to CentOS 6.2. Thanks for all the effort involved in producing this distro. One important part of this project is a 'respin' of the install media - we need to add a handful of packages from external repositories, and maybe run a command late in the install. Are the scripts/configurations used to produce the CentOS official CD/DVDs available? I guess this would be our most reliable/sensible starting point. I am fam...

Version numbering vis a vis CentOS and RHEL
...g list, etc. And then we?re right back in the same old boat: With every new release, the same old thread will pop up, ?How do I make my servers stay on CentOS 7.1?? Give up on the point release idea. It?s CentOS 7; there is no CentOS 7.1. The only reason there?s a YYMM part is that it?s a media respin. Best ignore that wherever practical.
