What are the options for HA and\or replication and\or storage?
...d which I am looking
for.
NFS can be a storage which has it's own pros and cons.
There is the option of DRBD but as of now it's limited for two hosts.
What options do exist out-there as a solution?
The main issues are that the current service is based on Maildir and is
on one server with resierfs.
The service is composed of one host with 50k users couple disks in raid6.
On the same machine we have postfix as mailer.
I would like to hear about HA environment that I can use to replicate
the boxes.
My basic research leaded me to smtp on one host or more and using lmtp
to send the messages...

Raidzone, reiserfs, huge files
...re mode very similar to when we copy to the main
array. Then we tried XFS, which is also journalling, and it too failed,
although in a different way.
However, when we just do a native copy in Linux from the SCSI drive to the
main array, the 32GB file copies fine, so it would seem that neither
resierfs in itself nor Samba in itself is choking on the huge files.
And yet I see in the archives a recent post from Leroy that he is using
resierfs for 30GB files with no problems (although perhaps he doesn't have
NT in the picture, I don't know.)
So what are the best options at this point? H...

Ext3 vs. Reiser?
Hi!
I was just wondering how Ext3 and Reiserfs compare. When I reinstalled my
server (because of a stupid hacker) I took the opportunity to change to
ReiserFS. And I have to say it's really much faster than Ext3.
I don't have benchmarks, but for example, stuff like "make dep" on the linux
kernel is much faster (even though I had enabled write cache when I was
using ext3).
So

Centos 4.1 & ReiserFS
...rect assumption that I can't install CentOS with
the CentOSPlus kernel? So I need to split it up:
/boot -> 128MB ext3
swap
/ -> 4 GB ext3
<free space>
Then i'll install the OS, upgrade the kernel to the CentOSPlus kernel,
install reiserfs-utils, format the free space as resierfs and mount it
as /home.
This is an older server so I'm trying to suck as much out of it before
forcing the company to upgrade. I figure a shiny new 2.6 kernel and
reiserfs should buy me some more time.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Tips?
Thanks,
Ajay

To ext3 or not to ext3?
I'm in the process of building a home file server and am of course going
to use Linux 2.4 (2.4.6 for now...). I'm waffling between resierfs and
ext3. I've read the ext3 page and some of the mailing list archives but
have a few questions remaining. (I apologize in advance if they are
redundant.)
Are there any known issues with:
- LVM
- LVM snapshots (more on that in a sec)
- Software RAID 5
- knfsd (including NFS v.3 supp...

too many links error when creating directories
hi , our centos os has an ext3 file system. and i cant create any more
directories, it gives me a too many links error, even when doing a manual
mkdir.
is there any workaround for this? without changing it to a different file
system like reiserFS? we dont have a reiserfs module in the os so it will
have to be installed. and can it be possible to install a reiserFS without
having to reformat the

Hard drive write cache
I am looking at ways to harden my asterisk install to prevent computer
related issues from happening. I am concerned about about disk write cache.
That seems to be a major source of hard drive corruption on power failure.
Hard Drive corruption is simply unacceptable for the 99.999% uptime
requirements of my Asterisk install that needs to be as reliable as a
proprietary PBX.
Of course I will be

Samba ignoring socket options?
Hi everyone. I am running Samba 3.2.0-22.1 (as packaged by OpenSUSE in
11.0) on a storage server connected to multiple windows based clients
over a gigabit ethernet link. The server is a quad core Intel CPU and
is equipped with an Intel e1000 based gigabit ethernet controller and plugged into a common gigabit ethernet switch with the windows clients.
I am seeing performance issues on transfers
