How to do SQL queries outside of AR
...ed, but I can''t use ActiveRecord because I am dealing with thousands of a different tables, one for each user, and I don''t think AR can be made to handle that situation. You can assign the table name; but that''s a class variable so any particular derived class can only represent one table at a time (ie, you can''t have two ''UserTable'' objects at the same time, one representing UserTable1000 and the other representing UserTable 1001). Anyway, does anyone know how I can do queries inside the Controller, or how I can hack an ActiveRecord object t...

to represent color range on plot segment
Dear R community, With an advantage of being "NEW" to R, I would like to post a very basic query here, I am in need of representing gene expression data which ranges from -0.09 to +4, on plot "segment". please find below the data df, the expression values are in df[,2]. kindly help me with the code, so that I can represent the values with a clear color gradient (something like -0.09 to 0 as red gradient and 0 to +4...

a plot of stacked boxes
Hello, I would like to create a plot composed of stacked boxes (squares or rectangles), where the size of the box would represent the frequency of observations based on a categorical variable (group), the color would represent the proportion of success (binary) within that group (outcome) on a predetermined color scale. Ideally the boxes can be stacked from the bottom left to the top right based on size. The x and y scales ar...

How to represent factor levels & ordiellipses using different colors?
...e species matrix consists of 70 patients and 274 species of bacteria. The metadata matrix consists of 10 variables(environmental matrix) My Professor asked me to do the following. To plot a constrained ordination plot constrained by tobacco habit(which is one of the factors). However he asked me to represent the graph as follows.. Represent the significant species (species that are farthest from the origin in the direction of the environmental variable) with biplot arrows pointing from origin to the species and hide the insignificant species(closer to the origin) on the graph. Also he asked me to us...

extracting tables from web pages?
Hello: What tools would you recommend for extracting the table of members of the US House of representatives from "http://house.gov/representatives/" and "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_current_members_of_the_United_States_House_of_Representatives_by_age"? I started writing something using getURL{RCurl}. However, I''m g...

Monte Carlo simulation in R
Hi, R-helpers, I''m trying to use R to do a Monte Carlo simulation and need the help. What I have is a matrix that consists of the probabilities for the persons to choose zones. For example, in the matrix shown below, each column represents a person, and each row represents a zone. So, the probability that the first person will choose the 2nd zone is 30%. 25% 30% 10% 30% 20% 0% 20% 50% 60% 50% 0% 10% 20% 0% 20% Based on this matrix, I want to locate the persons to zones based on the probability using a Monte Carlo method. The...

about plotting a special case
Hi R users, I have a question about plotting. There is the dataframe below, while each row represents a record. If I want to plot on a A-B plot, i.e., x-axis represents A, while y-axis represents B values. However, I want to plot the mean value from records 1-10 as one point, while the 10th and 90th percentiles represent the error bars, such as one point in the attached example. I don't know h...

plotting multilevel / lme lines
Dear expeRts, I am trying to plot a lme-object {package nlme) in such a way, that on a selected level the x-axis represents the value on a selected predictor and the y-axis represents the predicted-outcome variable. The graphs would than consist of several lines that each represent one group. I can''t find such a plotting function. I could write such a function myself, based on ranef() and fixef(), but...

creating 3-way tables for mantelhaen.test
....g., Y1). I combined these variables using data.frame() mydata <- data.frame(X1,X2,X3,X4,X5,X6,X7,Y1) after that, I sorted this data.frame rank.by.Y1<-order(mydata[,8]) sorted.mydata<-mydata[rank.by.Y1,] after that, I replaced Y1''s values with values ranging from 1 to 10 ( 1 represents the lowest group on Y1 and 10 presents the hight group on Y1). Now Y1 becomes a grouping variable. What I like to do is to apply mantelhaen.test for each binary variable pair (e.g, X1 and X2, X1 and X3, X1 and X4, .... , X6 and X7) In order to apply mantelhaen.test, a 3-dimensional contingency...

Node Attributes
So I am designing a railsapp that indexes school organizations such as clubs and frats/sororities. I have decided to represent this as a graph, and that each entity is going to be just represented as a node, and the relationship between each node is going to be an edge. so basically, a frat such as "Alpha Beta Gamma" is represented as a node, and its chapters also as seperate nodes, and pledge classes as sep...

About doing figures
Hi R users, I still have the problem about plotting. I wanted to put the datasets on one figure, x-axis represents values B, y-axis represents values C, while different colors label column A. Each record uses a circle on the figure, while hollow circles represent DF=1 and solid circles represent DF=2. I put my code below, but the A labels do not correspond to the true record, so I don't know what is the pr...

Representing 'Date' as 'Year - Quarter'
...he Date columns as "200706" for the second quarter of 2007; "199809" for the third quarter of 1997. Is there a way I can convert it to something like "2007 Q2", "1998 Q3"? I am aware of the yearqtr feature of the zoo package and ts also has some facility to represent frequency. However, the problem is that, my data isn''t exactly a time series right now. In each quarterly file, the date column has the same value f.e 200706, however each row contains fundamental data of a different firm. Ultimately, I intend to aggregate the 40 or so files into one dat...

smoothScatter function question and adding a legend
...have been able to make the plot, but I have a couple of questions about it. I also want to make a legend for it, which I don''t know how to do. I have only been playing around with R for a few weeks now off and on. So, I am definitely a beginner. 1. I have 10 colors for my plot: white representing zero density and dark red representing the maximum density (I presume). According to the R documentation, the transformation argument represents the "function mapping the density scale to the color scale." Note that in my R code below, transformation = function(x) x^0.14. I was wonde...

May IR types be merged by llvm-link?
...class template, so in this case llvm-link chooses arbitrary type as a definition. As a result the opaque type is mapped to wrong type in IR. The question here is whether the opaque type resolution made by llvm-link is a correct operation, which in turn depends on what source language objects are represented in IR. Variables and function must exist in IR because these are entities directly represented in object files, but types do not have similar requirement. There are at least two viewpoints on which entities of source language should be represented in IR. Case 1 LLVM IR is a functional equi...
