Hi. I'm trying to install the latest version of syslinux on a FAT12 partition on a 16M Flash disk. However, despire reformatting, repartioning, and running both lock c: and fdisk /mbr, I keep receiving an "ERROR 440D: Unable to lock drive for exclusive access" message. I have a system that is RAID -1 configured as /dev/md0 is /dev/hda1 /dev/hdb1 /dev/md1 is /dev/hdb3 /dev/hdb3 it seems as though /dev/hda has failed.... I have another disk (identical model) that I can replace hda with. I know about the commands fdisk to repartion and raidhotadd /dev/md0 /dev/hda1 and raidhotadd /dev/md1 /dev/hda3 (to be ran after the system boots). hi I recently got ubuntu dapper, very good... The only problem is i didn't give myself enough diskspace to install anything decent (and can't be bothered repartioning) and so i want to be able to use my existing installation of windows as wine... ...n Wednesday, when the poor WD drive caught the click-of-death. It was a s/h drive to start with and lasted about 4 months. But that was without the /var/log/ partition being written to it, as I mounted that back onto /var/log from the original drive. So I had to install another (WD) drive, and repartion it and rebuild my RPM package database, from the backed-up Packages file. That seems to be all OK now. I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to use a new SSD for moving all the disk i/o to, that Linux likes to do so often. Plus putting SWAP onto a decent SSD should speed things up s...
