ClamAV reports a trojan
This morning I discovered this in my clamav report from one of our
imap servers:
/usr/share/nmap/scripts/irc-unrealircd-backdoor.nse:
Unix.Trojan.MSShellcode-21 FOUND
I have looked at this script and it appears to be part of the nmap
distribution. It actually tests for irc backdoors. IRC is not used
here and its ports are blocked by default both at the gateway and on
all internal hosts.

How to resolve conflicts between sanitizer_common and system headers
Hi Sanitizer Runtime Developers,
We recently ran into a problem building clang because some of the definitions in sanitizer_common conflicted with system definitions and later another system header was trying to use the system definition:
.../usr/include/libkern/OSAtomicDeprecated.h:756:17: error: reference to 'memory_order_relaxed' is ambiguous

FYI: Package installation problem with windows
Hello,
maybe this info is helpful for someone else, at least it is a reminder
for me if the problem should reoccur:
The last hours R drove me nuts because it wouldn't install new packages,
or more irritating still: It would chose randomly which packages to
install when given a list ("unable to move temporary installation" ).
The solution was to turn of the indexation of

Thanks for the input!

We upgraded to Samba 2.2.5 and the error has not reoccurred since.
Thanks for your responses!

Lots of "write_data: write failure in writing to client" and "Error writing 4 bytes to client. -1"
Last week we installed Samba 3.0.20b on one of our servers, worked fine and
does it's job well. But today the load was rising due two smbd processes
taking up all cputime. While looking for hints on what was going on the
logfiles show two types of errors (I don't know at this time if it has
anything to do with the load spike):

primary group gets set to 100 on Samba AD server after a while
I had similar (ish) issues.
Are you using winbindd and rfc2307 UIDs/GIDs? I had to implement both of
the above on my DC to resolve this. (Neither of which I /wanted/ to do..
but since switching over and running 'net cache flush' etc., the problem
hasn't reoccurred)

[POSSIBLE FRAUD] Re: [EXTERNAL] Re: Help with Tripp Lite Internet600U
Did it stay stable this time?
It looks like the restart of the service restored communication.
If it reoccurs:
>>> Bus 001 Device 011: ID 09ae:3024 Tripp Lite
I wonder if this is the same device number after? Something to keep an eye on
Thank you,

Disapearing Drives: Urgent help needed
...tempts to access
the share from another machine as the same user are successful.
The fix for this seems to be, either reboot the client (less preferable
because the user gets upset) or restart the smbd on the server. Either
way, subsequent share access is restored. Unfortunately, this problem
is reoccurring several times a day and I find myself restarting samba
about 4-5 times daily. This has reached a crisis point, so any help
would be appreciated.
In terns of samba version, this problem first appeared when I upgraded
to samba_3.0.23d-2+b1 (on Debian Testing). Subsequently, I rolled back

Floating point exception help
Hi Manfred,
I applied the patch and recompiled and reinstalled and I got the folowing
warning during my first test call:
Aug 19 12:26:51 WARNING[294927]: dsp.c:1234 __ast_dsp_silence: zero length
packet
It looks like that could be the problem... and the fix! I'll let you know if
the problem reoccurs. Might it be an idea to submit the patch to the
bugtracker?
Thanks,
Gary

dovecot and thunderbird
We've been using dovecot for a while now (currently 1.0beta7) and it works
nicely. We have just one reoccuring problem:
When using thunderbird as the imap client sometimes when messages are moved
from the inbox to other folders (including Trash) they shortly thereafter
reappear in the inbox - this can happen multiple times to the same message.
We have multiple namespaces set up so that

Crash on opening mailbox
Well, good news and bad news.
I backed up the indexes (presumably the ~/.mbox/.imap/*) and started
tinkering:
dovecotadm -u username INBOX
did nothing, it didn't event produce a message in the log, and the
indexes were not updated. I deleted the indexes, and let dovecot rebuild
them. This fixed my inbox (good news), unfortunately, even after copying
the backed-up files back I can no longer

corrupt attachments
Not sure if this has already been covered, but any pointers
or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
We just realized last night that dovecot-stable seems to be
corrupting the attachments within users' inboxes.
In an attempt to resolve the problem, we upgraded the
mail server here to Dovecot 1.0alpha4 but it didn't help.
To the best of our knowledge we didn't start experiencing

Strange lock problem + sporadic massive slowdown
Hi,
thanks for reading, would be great if you could help me out with two
strange reoccuring problems.
Problem 1:
Currently we are running an IBM 206m with Debian Etch and Samba 3.0.24.
We have about 25 Clients which are running Windows XP SP2 or 2000 SP4.
3 of those Clients (XP) open and close ~15 excel sheets (size between
100kb and 1MB) approximately every 5 Minutes or so.

PJSIP Lockup
We ultimately found this to be a voicemail issue. The voicemail is held in
MYSQL as well (via ODBC). And we found when attempting to playback a
customers voicemail unavail greeting is when the deadlock would occur
(Immediately, every time. Throwing the same "task processors" errors, And
making pjsip completely unresponsive). We had imported a number of
greetings from a legacy asterisk

primary group gets set to 100 on Samba AD server after a while
I did some experimenting on my raspberry pi with samba-4.4.2 as AD
server (fresh install, no upgrade), and adding a new user:
samba-tool user add grepit --gid-number=513 --login-shell=/bin/bash
and then checking it:

ROEST\grepit:*:3000017:100::/home/grepit:/bin/bash
root at pi6lan:/etc# id grepit
