Route generation and clash prevention
Let''s say you''re building a movie rental website. You have customers,
movies, and rentals to manage. REST style urls might look like this:
/customers/4
/movies/15
/rentals
You''d probably also want administrators to be able to view all of the
rentals done by a particular customer, and other similar details:
/customers/4/rentals...

Design question
...arning new things all the
time. However since I develop alone and my inexperience with rails I?m
asking for help to answer some design questions that I have regarding my
first app.
After reading the Agile Rails Dev book I have implemented a shopping
cart system for a fictional holiday property rentals site (may develop
into something more in future) with a few modifications. Instead of
adding line_items it adds available dates for the rental of a particular
property details of which are held in a rentals table which is updated
when as user checks out.
This is fine as long as there is valid...

My sub-folder with Outlook work-around to date
...and in some
instances the MS Live Messenger thingy).
Some shenanigans in recent years have arose with using sub-folders in
the Outlook clients (2013 and 2016).
Traditionally, placing a "/" after the name of a newly desired e-mail
folder has netted the result of something like:
"Rentals/"
creating:
/u/home/someuser/mail/Rentals/
Under which users then create actual e-mail folders under the "Rentals"
Linux directory as such.
With Outlook 2013 and 2016 this seems to have stopped working and so I
implemented a work-around where the user creates a normal folder,...

911 Q
OK, got a question on 911.
Looking into setting up a couple asterisk servers at a country club,
with VOIP phones in each of 100 short-term residential rental units.
Approx 100 extensions, approx 24 outside lines.
Since everything is geographically at one location, reaching 911
correctly shouldn't present a problem. However, the club wishes to
ensure that 911 authorities are able to identify the precise rental unit
placing the call.
How can we ach...

Has anyone been able to configure Asterisk to work over 3G?
I bought Nokia Cell Phones just for that purpose and they register fine
over WiFi and 3G but the quality is just not good enough and sometimes
the call just disconnects.

Big time system
...all time system 50-100 users or so.
But, we have an opportunity to get into a big time telecom activity.
It would have 2000 to 30,000 user lines per city, and we would like to have
those brought back to a central location for control and because transport
can be more economical than remote site rentals, maintenance and personnel.
We could take the local lines into concentrators (TNTs or equivalent) and
bring back IP to a central site, or put servers at the remote cities.
Our object is to serve as a "central office switch" for subscribers on
standard telco service loops.
This isn'...

Astricon costs...
Has anyone really looked at the costs for Astricon. But the hotel costs.
$111.00 USD per night.. come on guys give me a break. I will not be staying
at that hotel. I can rent a car and stay near the air port for almost half
that. In addition from what I have been told their will be no shuttle
service from the Airport to the hotel.
Anyone else have any input on this?

I have to restart Asterisk to resolve the issue.

It's not recognizing that the other party picked up the phone and

Problems with adding Windows printer drivers to a Samba box
...ons of Mandrake). I was able to successfully
add printer drivers to one of these boxes (as it was the only one
running Samba at the time, called MAIN) without any problems.
Yesterday, I had to install some drivers for a Toshiba photocopier (for
all those considering Toshiba photocopier purchase/rental for network
printing *DON'T*. Their drivers are horrible, unstable bodies of code).
On the existing Samba box and on the new one (with security = domain
pointing at MAIN), I could not add the driver. It turns out that one of
my "administrator friends" had previously added the driv...

UK DID providers
...rectly passed 100% of the time,
unlike Sipgate, my current (free) provider, whose DTMF detection/passing is
not at all reliable, making it useless for a virtual receptionist scenario.
I don't mind paying for this service (free is good though...), as long as it
is reasonably less than the cost/rental of another physical BT line in to
our premises.

How far to go with ActiveRecord unit tests without hitting the database?
I''m currently try to push my limits a little bit with some of my unit
testing -- trying to avoid saving ActiveRecord objects to the database and
take advantage of mock/stub objects.
How far should I expect to get in this direction? From what I can tell,
ActiveRecord seems to fight me when it comes to associations. In other
words, many associations seem to require database queries.
