DC and shares separation
...o their mappings and links which point the DC's name or fqdn. My idea is to rename the DC (hostname and netbios) and assign its old the another server with shares only. Is it possible to do it safely without disrupting the domain, kerberos and dns (samba internal dns)? If I execute the 'renamedc' provided by Samba will the computers (including the ones in a remote routed location) realise that and adjust their registries? Are there any other ways to archive the goal? Currently the domain name is a CNAME to the AD DC fqdn. I don't have any BDC at the moment. Thank you Leszek

So in answer to your question, use s3fs. > > localhost isn't the name of the ad dc,

How to migrate Active Directory from one Samba4 server to another
Hello! We are using a Samba4.0.0alpha19 (Resara 1.1.2) based domain controller in a small production environment and because the Resara development has ended we want to switch to a plain Samba4 beta based Ubuntu 12.04/Zentyal Server. I have installed and configured the new server with the same domain-name and the same hostname like the old server. How can i export the Active Directory from the

Change hostname of the main domain controller of the Active Directory
Hi, With Samba4 and Active Directory the hostname of the server is read during provision, to set the netbios name. It's even asked to set /etc/hostname and /etc/hosts in respect with the chosen domain/realm names. I've seen that on real windows AD that it's possible to change the hostname of the domain controller with netdom command, but is there a way to do so on Samba4 ? The

...ntly replaced an ageing server running Samba 4.5.10 with one running Samba 4.11.8. They both run FreeBSD / ZFS. The site is setup as an AD (I wrote https://wiki.freebsd.org/Samba4ZFS while doing it). My original plan was to join the new server to the domain, shut down the old one and rename it but renamedc complained the old name was still present so I just keep the name (gateway2). The join (samba-tool domain join beger.com.au DC -k yes --dns-backend=BIND9_DLZ) seemed to run fine. I also copied the sysvol from the old system and fixed up the ACLs. Note that I had to add "dfs_samba4 zfsacl&quot...
