I know there's a couple third party repos offering PHP 7 for Centos. I prefer not to add too much third party that I don't have to and PHP 7 has been mainstream for some time now, I thought maybe it would be in EPEL by now. What is the most recommended and stable way to get an up to date PHP on Centos 7?

...the metadata for EPEL and IUS, neither seem to carry PHP 7.4. It is EOL anyway, so you should migrate to PHP 8. ...decent write up to refer to... and with a long time till C6 EOL and RH relying heavily on SCL for PHP5.4+ (rather than rebasing the php in the base distro) on it I'm sure it'll become an even more common question than it already is. Still none of the options (RH SCL, SIG SCL, SCL.org, IUS, RemiRepo) help us EPEL since we can only depend on what's in base or EPEL for package dependencies, and all efforts to get SCL approved in the Fedora Packaging Guidelines have been rejected over the past few years.

For now my recommendation for owncloud or nextcloud is to use their most recent manual tarball/zip install and PHP 7.1 from your preferred choice of IUS, RemiRepo or SCL ... or run their official containers. I hope to have a container option soon(ish) as part of the Fedora Container Service initiative that would allow you to run the Fedora based version easily, which would bypass the PHP version issues.... but that needs me to have time to get all the depen...

Hi, I am running CentOS Linux release 7.9.2009 (Core) and have enabled both epel and ius repository - ius-release-2-1.el7.ius.noarch - epel-release-7-14.noarch IUS not pulling the latest PHP packages.
