Remastering an RPM based distribution – How To
From my work with Fedora, I have a reasonably complete How To Guide that presently runs about 30 pages. Although the process of remastering a distribution is not complex (once it is understood), explaining the how and why of each step does get a bit verbose. For distributions like Fedora that have frequent updates and no decimal releases, having an up to date copy for subsequent installs is a very handy thing. As CentOS normally i...

Remaster CentOS from source
Hello, I was curious if there were any documentation available on how to remaster CentOS from srpms (as in to recreate the process from RHEL srpms) to create a derivative distro. This is only for educational purposes to better understand the process. Thank you for your time.

A few questions about remastering
Hi, I've searched all over Google, but couldn't find a proper answer to my needs. I've installed CentOS 5.1 only with the packages I need and then made a few of my own. Now, here's what I need: a) To integrate my self-made packages in a remasterized DVD; b) That the install process of the new version skips package choosing, i. e., when it reaches this stage it just installs

Custom Installer Kernel
Hi All, I'm trying to remaster the boot.iso image with a custom kernel as the nForce based boards I have are not supported by the stock CentOS 5.0 installer, but they are supported by newer kernels. I need this so I can do kickstarted network installs. Is there a howto available for how to go about this? My google prowess must not be as good as I thought as I've not been able to find

Latency of Linux Bridge
...CPU speed. I tried on 2 GHz PC while having just 64kBit traffic with packet size of about 300bytes. I am using Knoppix 3.82 which is actually a debian Live-CD Linux, Kernel 2.6.11. For some reason they put iproute2 041019 on this distro, which is intended to be used for kernel 2.6.9. I am aware of remastering the CD, but have to check if it is possible to recompile the kernel for the remaster. back to my question: where does this latency come from? "top" shows almost no load while the bridge is handling traffic, so how come? is there some timer-granularity which can be set in the kernel, is t...

Fw: HP T1000 UPS Upadet & help with using under knoppix
I have made some progress with this. If I add this into my loading script: /etc/init.d/udev stop sleep 1 /etc/init.d/udev start 2>/dev/null sleep 1it works from remastered CD. I have made 25 connection, reboot, reconnect, with no failures. I realise how strange this must sound & I definitely need the sleep commands!I am missing UPS temperature and battery run-time on the

samba permission denied after a kernel build
I have a ISO that I have remaster for some custom recovery procedures. I tried using the same rootfs (initrd) that works with kernel 3.1.2 on older hardware, but not newer. So I downloaded the 3.12.1 kernel tree to a Ubuntu 10 server. Builded the 3.12.1 kernel and tried it with the older rootfs. Now the new hardware and old hardware will fire up the network, but when I try and mount.cifs I get a
