can not wake on lan after halt -p (or shutdown -p now) on releng_7 and releng_7_0
...from windows - later I can wake it up with magic packet. Even if i shutdown the machine on the boot menu with the power button - than later I can wake on lan. The only situation where I CANNOT wake it is when I shutdown the machine from freebsd (halt -p). First I tested with 7.0-RELEASE-p5 amd64 (RELENG_7_0) and than I upgraded to 7.1 PRERELASE amd64 (RELENG_7). I also tested with two network cards - the integrated one Realtek 8111B and another one Intel PRO1000PT PCI-E with WOL enabled. With both nics and both freebsd versions the situation is the same - after shutdown from bsd the computer is not a...

MCP55 SATA data corruption in FreeBSD 7
I am having problems with silent data corruption on (some) drives connected to an MCP55 SATA controller. I have two servers, both running RELENG_7_0/amd64. One has the 570 Ultra chipset, the other has 570 SLI. Both chipsets have the MCP55 SATA controller. The server with 570 Ultra chipset has a bunch of older 250GB SATA-150 drives hooked up to the MCP55 controller and it is working just fine. The server with 570 SLI chipset has a bunch of...

FreeBSD 7.0-RC3 (for amd64/i386 only) Available
...update done between RC1 and RC2. Because it''s a "mini-RC" targetted at testing of one particular thing we have not bothered with setting up FreeBSD Update. You can use the normal cvsup-and-build method of doing an update for machines that are already up and running (branch tag RELENG_7_0) or install from scratch using the ISOs available on the FTP sites. If those who experienced problems related to the hptrr driver update could let us know one way or another whether or not you are still having problems with it that would be appreciated. Thanks. Sums for the ISOs: MD5 (7.0-RC3-a...

Dell Perc 6 disk geometry problem with RAID5 (both 6.3 final and 7.0 RC1)
Hi, We bought a new Dell PowerEdge 2950III with Perc 6/i and have the disk geometry problem using 6.3 final or 7.0 RC1. Seems that we are not alone at least one guy has similar problem reported earlier: http://unix.derkeiler.com/Mailing-Lists/FreeBSD/questions/2008-01/msg00506.html I was reading the mailing list and found that some of the people are happily using

7.0 issues fixed? upgrade timing?
1. I have a realtek network card and am using a cable modem router. Does anyone know if fixes for problems with these (see below) have been backported from HEAD to RELENG_7? 2. Is this a good time to upgrade to RELENG_7? 3. I read a post last week that advised that 7.1 is a long way off. Appreciate any advice on use of ULE 3.0 and ZFS prior to 7.1 and a comment on what is holding up 7.1. Thanks

Sockets stuck in FIN_WAIT_1
I have a rather busy Apache 2.2 server; tons of small & some large requests. It''s a standard Dell 2650 server using the bge (broadcom) network driver. I seem to have a rather strange problem where after just a day or so Apache just stops processing new connections. You can connect to port 80, but trying to get Apache to process any data just hangs. There is nothing

ext2 inode size patch - RE: PR kern/124621
A while back, I submitted a patch for PR kern/124621, which allows the mounting of an ext2(3) filesystem created with an inode size other than 128. The e2fsprogs'' default is now 256, so file systems created on newer Linux distributions or with the port will not be mountable. I was hopeful this would get committed in time for 7.1-RELEASE (and 6.4-RELEASE), however the PR remains

[SO]HO Software RAID5 server: which implementation should I choice?
Hello, freebsd-stable. Does somebody use some software RAID5 on FreeBSD in real production system? I want to build storage server for my home: RAW photos, multi-layer PhotoShop files and FLAC-encoded music consume a lot of space, and they should be availible both from desktop & notebook. Also, all photo-content is unique, so I need some insuranse from single HDD crash. I understand,
