Radu,
First, it's very scary that you're using RedHat 3. That could be a
source of many problems. ;) Anyway, what error(s) is

Newbie smb.conf question
Excuse my ignorance please, and the simple nature of this questions...but
would someone explain to me the difference between the "create mode" and
"force create mode" parameters in the smb.conf file? When would "create
mode" *not* be forced?
Thanks!

Smbd hangs entire machine forcing reset
Hi all!
I have recently installed samba-3.0.2a-1 on my RedHat 9.0, Kernel
2.4.20-8 box. The box has a 300GB RAID5 array, 4GB of memory, and dual
2.4Ghz P4 processors with hyper threading enabled.
When I copy a massive amount of files (~50GB) to the Samba server
from a Windows 2K client, somewhere during that process (seemingly around 2
hours into the copy each time), my Linux box COMPLETELY

smbtorture utility
Forgive my ignorance, but I keep reading about this smbtorture utility and I
can't find it anywhere! It doesn't *seem* to come with Samba. Where can I
find this binary? Thanks!

Samba consuming massive amounts of memory (CONT)
Concerning Samba consuming memory, I forgot to add one thing, sorry.
The process listing does not show Smbd consuming the memory. "free -m" just
reports a drastic increase when I use Samba.

File corruption
We have moved our 3rd-party multiuser billing system database files from
Novell NetWare to Samba (first 2.2.8a, and now, just last Friday evening,
upgraded to 3.0.2a) on Mandrake Linux 9.2 (kernel version 2.4). Now, about
once every week or so, we get a file corruption, and last week (even after
upgrading some NICs) seemed to be even worse, with 5 or 6 problems.
Because we had no problems before

strace

Hi Chris.
Do you mind if I butt in on this thread? I am currently fighting
tooth and nail with Samba and I am attempting to do an strace on it
myself...to no avail. When I start Samba with "strace -ff -o trace.out smbd
-D", the program starts, but I cannot connect to the service
