LVM repairing or back to regular ext3?
Can anyone point me in the right direction for correcting errors on an HD when using LVM? I've tried e2fsck and indicates bad block. I've tried with -b 8193, 16384, and 32768 and no good. I've found some info about reiserfsck on google, but this utility doesn't seem to be included in Centos4.3. I did find it on my old FC1 box. I am thinking now I really should have went with just regular 83 Linux ext3 partitions. Arrgghhh. And if I want to switch to 83 Linux instead of 8e LVM, whats the best way, or at least a f...

big file server
Hi I plan to set up a big file server, something like motherboard with 4 ide ports and an additional 4 ide daughter card, a PIV proc and 512 or 1024 MB ram, a 100 or 1000 MB NIC, with 6 or 7 200 GB ide HDDs in a sigle box. I don't need lightning performance, just disk space. Of course this would be served by some linux os and samba questions (relative to samba configuration and behaviour) :

Xen domU crashes accessing to drbd disk if using maxmem.

Recommended FS for Dovecot Maildir
Hi, I've heard that for Dovecot/Mailir systems there are filesystems that are optimised for the situation of many small files in one folder. Could I possibly have some feedback on what the recommended filesystems are? I've heard of ReiserFS but was wondering what other options there are and how they compare. If I get a good comprehensive response I'll build a wiki summary page

Ext3 vs. Reiser?
Hi! I was just wondering how Ext3 and Reiserfs compare. When I reinstalled my server (because of a stupid hacker) I took the opportunity to change to ReiserFS. And I have to say it's really much faster than Ext3. I don't have benchmarks, but for example, stuff like "make dep" on the linux kernel is much faster (even though I had enabled write cache when I was using ext3). So

Xen with dom0 pvops on ultra-recent "git tip" kernel on x86_64
Hi everyone, I am very excited to see that dom0 pvops is finally coming close to working, so I wanted to give it a try. >From the description it was not clear to me which kernel to chose as base for the patches.hg, so I took the latest (that was ~ 2 weeks ago) kernel on git.kernel.org I could find (post-2.6.28 git tip at that point). I managed to more or less apply all of the patches in the
