Emails redownloading
Hi,
recently, we had a problem on one of our mail servers and, after
reboot, HDD with emails wasn't mounted into system. Until we fixed it,
LOTS of users logged in (Dovecot allowed login and recreated directory
structure of mailboxes) and saw empty mailboxes. Now they are
redownloading all email, which isn't fun, as it's about 2 TB of data.
Anyway, is there a way how to prevent this in the future? Can i set
Dovecot to disallow logins in such situations? Thanks.

Corrupted transaction log and redownloading
...clinets started to download them again.
Why this happened and how to prevent it (other than 'not
hard-rebooting')? I know that reboot could cause corruption of uid
files in some cases but this time it looks like this was caused by
corrupted indexes - how index corruption can cause redownloading and
why?
Thanks for any info.

Sure but imapsync does not preserve message UID's which means that users
end up redownloading all their messages or message/UID mismatches will
happen.

IMAP clients suddenly redownload folder headers
We had an issue today with IMAP clients (Thunderbird, Outlook) having to
redownload headers for folders. This issue was eerily close to a MySQL
database structure change that shouldn't have affected any related
queries, however we did notice an event of user CPU % not being reported
via SNMP around the same time for the server. There are no entries in
our dovecot error log...

supermin: how can I avoid downloading packages everytime when run make
Hi,
When I run make in libguestfs directory, supermin tries to redownload
all packages it needs everytime. This is a blocker for me because:
1. I have a slow network connection, redownloading all packages is just
a waste of time even though they are not big.
2. My network connection is not stable(especially when visiting sites
outside of China), sometimes it fail...

They might redownload because of UID FETCH failing?

imapsync will change IMAP UIDs and cause clients to redownload all mails. http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Migration/Dsync should work though.

MBOX to Maildir preserving the UIDL (outlook-tested, no redownloading)
TESTED AND RUNNING, MIGRATING from MBOX to MAILDIR, PRESERVE UID and OUTLOOK
sees the email as downloaded.
I hope this helps a lot of people out there.
Feel free to post this somewhere else too.

timestamp question
...mirror
server A on a regular basis, but at different actual times (due to TZ
differences).
Server D is mirroring Server B.
We'd like to change Server D to be mirroring Server C instead.
Previously when I've swapped between servers like this, vast swathes of the
archive are deleted and redownloaded (I use -av --delete-after) for no reason
other than the timestamp being different.
If I use -av -I, will it ignore the timestamps and only go on file size?
The archive in question is a several hundred GB linux distro archive so I'd
rather not have to redownload it :)
Cheers,
Mark.

Replication - hostname issue
...e doc tells to rundovecot --hostdomainto make sure the hostnames differ... To my surprise the command returned "localhost" on both servers.
How do I set the hostname for dovecot service?(The hostname command returns the servers hostnames.)Will a change in dovecot hostname make all clients redownload all their mail?
A second question. When configuring dovecot replication. Should the settings be done on the master server or the stand by server, or both? (Doc doesn't say anything regarding this)

Help with upgrading 7960 SCCP to SIP
...-07-1-00.sbn
P003-07-1-00.bin
P0S3-07-1-00.loads
P0S3-07-1-00.sb2
If I put "P003-07-1-00" in OS79XX.TXT, the phone tries to tftp
XMLDefault.cnf.xml. I've tried every imaginable <loadinformation>
parameter, and can't get the phone to actually grab the image, it just
keeps redownloading the XML file.
If I put "P0S3-07-1-00" in OS79XX.TXT, the phone wants to download
P0S3-07-1-00.sbn, which I don't have. If I rename P003-07-1-00.sbn to
that name, it downloads the file but then says "File auth error".

Dovecot/K9/Thunderbird IMAP interaction issues: replicated messages, constant reloading (TB) & missing new messages (K-9)

these messages and I will resync someday and then try to file them away
more expediently than my previously somewhat lazy management style to
keep the inbox small.
* In thunderbird, I get constant downloading of messages. Every time I
switch to the inbox from another folder, the messages start
redownloading. This sometimes, but not always, seems to create
duplicate messages, but I'm now fairly sure they are only created in the
client and not on the server. Searching through various forums, it
appears this has been a problem for Thunderbird for some time, but it
wasn't for me on Courier....

I don't think so. Been using imapsync for large scale migrations from
external servers to our dovecot setup. Users don't even see it when the key
is switched (DNS changes).
Go for it.

Migrating maildirs - Courier to Dovecot
...done to death, but I want to migrate from Courier to Dovecot.
I think my main question is whether there's any reason I shouldn't just rsync the maildirs across from the old mail server to the new one?
There aren't many clients using this server, so I don't care if clients have to redownload all their messages (in fact, I expect they'll probably end up doing so anyway).
I'd like to preserve read/unread status of each message, but can't think of anything else important.
It doesn't matter if there's a few hours of downtime, but I thought to use rsync because I figur...

Garry's Mod Questions
Hi dere, I switched over from Windows to Linux and I'm loving it. I do have a few problems with Gmod.
1. It won't work. I downloaded Wine after I downloaded Gmod, would that mess it up? Do I have to redownload it?
2. I also downloaded it from Steam, does that affect it?
kthnx :D
