Excluding redirected directories causes file deletion on logout...
...samba-3.0.21 OS: OpenBSD I built a new WinXP (sp2 and fully updated) box with the the idea of making a Default User profile. I followed the directions in the "Making Happy Users" section of the Samba-3 By Example guide. http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html#redirfold Folder redirection is working, using the %LOGONSERVER%\profiles\%USERNAME%\ string to replace %USERPROFILE%. But, when I use gpedit.mmc to exclude the redirected folders from the roaming profile, as instructed here http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html#sbehap-locgrppol al...

windows 7 roaming profiles
Hi Samba4 DC and win 7 clients. The user profiles are stored in a profiles share: [profiles] path = /home/CACTUS/profiles read only = No This works OK and the user can logon to different boxes with the same profile. The profile folders such as Desktop, Downloads etc. however, also appear stored on the local disk under c:\users\username. Any file saved e.g. on the Desktop, is not

issues with folder redirection and synchronisation
...ave a samba/ldap PDC with a netlogon share and a samba member server (called sirius) with Profiles and homes shares (samba 3.0.14). Each user in the LDAP database has its sambaHomeDrive attribute set to "H:". I'm trying to follow http://samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html#redirfold to configure my XP Pro client. It seems that I'm unable to have "folder redirection" AND "folder exclusion from roaming profiles" work together. After a fresh install of XP pro I use gpedit.msc to exclude "My documents" from roaming profiles. Then I copy NTUSER.DA...

%LOGONSERVER% variable in netlogon/Default User folder redirection
Hi, (This is taken form here : http://samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html#redirfold ) I'm using folder redirection so I have a NTUSER.DAT file in the "netlogon" directory on the logon server (the primary domain controler), which I edited with regedit to set up some folders so that they point to the logon server by using the %LOGONSERVER% variable, and it seems it do...

Folder redirection changes library names
Hello! I know that this topic belogs more to Windows 7 than to Samba. But perhaps some users had the same problem already and could give some help. I used folder redirection for an existing roaming profile as described in http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html#redirfold All works fine. But the localized geman names of the libraries changed after the first relogon as described below. - Eigene Bilder (My Pictures)--> Pictures - Eigene Dokumente (My Documents) --> Documents - Eigene Musik (My Musik) --> Music - Eigene Videos (My Videos) --> Videos I d...

Roam Prof + F Redir: Logon/off merge deletes most of profile
...orry for the lengthy post, but I've tried quite a lot. I've searched the mailing lists, Google, usenet, and IRC. This post is a last resort. Thanks for any help. Cheers, Richard I have verified my setup follows the samba doc: http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html#redirfold Synopsis: --------- When a user logs off XP, most of the server profile directory is deleted, *except* files created (or modified) during the session being ended (logoff). For example, if I create a new file, then logoff and logon again, the file will remain. However, during the second logoff,...

Windows share "bridge"
Hi, I'm currently working on something quite ugly. We have a WindowsXP Home system here that is used as a storage server. Windows XP Home restricts the maximal user count to 5 users at a time that can connect to the network share. My boss doesn't want to delete winblows because he feels confident with it (except from the limitation) so a native samba server isn't possible. A
