Centos 4.1 DISPLAY question
I have X running on 4.1. From another PC I use ssh to remote in. from the command line I enter "export DISPLAY=machine:0.0; mozilla" and nothing comes up on the X window screen. mozilla just returns. I then tried in a terminal on X windows issue the command "xhost + " and redid the "export DISPLAY=machine:0.0; mozilla" on the command line with nothing showing on the X window screen again. If I remote into machine and enter the command "mozilla" it will display on my workstation no problem. Why cant I get it to display on the machine:0.0 display? THa...

Why are Samba DCs not browsable?

If you are running a DC and there is a > separate 'nmbd' running, then you really should stop it and stop it > starting at boot. > > Rowland > > Is there any work being done to fix this problem? I just redid a Samba 4 install and discovered that the DC was not browsable. Since this is for a small office, they only have the one server doing both DC and file & print services. Browsing is somewhat important.

Trust relationship fails after classicupgrade
...ogon with anything but the last (cached) user account on a Win7 machine I get: "The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed". I am unsure what has changed. The classicupgrade worked flawless regarding the windows machines' domain membership before. I redid it today, to no avail. Got a new backup from LDAP from the still productive Samba 3.4.3 PDC (running on Debian Lenny) and redid the classicupgrade again...still the trust relationship fails. Is there an explanation for this? I tested with a WinXP machine as well and get the same error. Both the Wi...

I redid it (without changing anything that I was aware of) and it worked fine. So I don't think it's related.

Remember to edit the /lib/systemd/system/vncserver@:4.service file's <USER> as you did before. > Emmett OK - I redid and used the name vncserver@:0.service Still not work - I then used 4 as in your example and it worked. How do I get port 5900 ? Thanks, jerry

INITRD_MODULES
...add hv_vmbus hv_netvsc hv_storvsc to INITRD_MODULES. which doesnt really exist any more in CentOS 7. I did find /etc/dracut.conf and add_drivers... I uncommented the line for '#add_drivers += "" ' added the above modules and then ran: grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg Then redid the convert above... Hyper-V still gives me dracut-timeout errors. Thoughts ? Did I miss something ? Thanks Jerry

(OT) Puzzled over reinstalling R on new Linux distro...
Evening all: Redid my home box using VectorLinux (Slackware variation) and now I'm not sure which game trail to follow to reinstall R. Could somebody with more knowledge in this share their thoughts off-list. Just need a pointer to the appropriate trail head. I can take it from there. Regards... -- Brian Lun...

Querying users(w2k) from Samba PDC
...nt. Now to my problem: I wanted to add a user to the local filesystem(for testing). So I opened up the Security Tab and listed my domain. Lo and behold. No users. That strange I thought and added the user manually and hit the Check button. It worked ofcourse. So I added a couple of groups and redid the actions above. Still no users in the list but my newly added groups was visible. What am I doing wrong? Can anyone give a hint or two on where I should go? gpo not applied a boot computer
Sorry for the translation. actually my first installation is a samba put into production, to avoid errors, I cloned on a new VM not to break my current system. on this one I redid an installation with DEB packages "https://dev.tranquil.it" I then made a restoration. I presice that the supply is a samba3 pdc migration to samba4 dc "samba-tool domain samba3upgrade". I only have one DC at the moment. I checked the database with "dbcheck", no probl...

tc script stopped working
I''ve used tc in the past for shaping, upon learning of tcng, I redid my config, and load it using tcc. I thought this was great, as the new script is much easier to maintain, and is so much simpler. The new script was working for about a week, then it stopped working. I now get this error: can''t dump subexpression (if_u32.c, unsupported offset sequence - pl...

filesystem corruption?
...t drive, and rebuilt. I was not able to build it as CentOS 7, as something in the older hardware broke the install. CentOS 6 built successfully, and the server was returned to service. I then loaded the drive in another server, and examined it. fsck reported both / and /boot were clean, but when I redid this with fask -c, to check for bad blocks, it found many multiply-claimed blocks. First question: anyone have an idea why it showed as clean, until I checked for bad blocks? Would that just be because I'd gracefully shut down the original server, and it mounted ok on the other server? Mounti...

ping: Bad Code: 6
...hat I can get from one linux host to machines on the LAN behind the second linux host, but ping times reveal it's not going straight through (automesh problem again). I have ConnectTo statements for all boxes on all boxes. Exactly the same config and hosts files worked just fine before I redid the boxes. I imagine it's something I'm doing on these two Fedora boxes. The 1, original Fedora box is not really under my direct administration, so it probably escaped my unintentional wrath. I figured I'd open this up to the group so, if nothing else, perhaps someone could expla...

Terrible performance when setting zfs_arc_max snv_98
...a time. When this cycle is finished, it looks normal again. This seems to be the flushing of the NVRAM cache. Should be solved by disabling the flush...So far so good... But I also need the memory for PostgreSQL to work, so I added: set zfs:zfs_arc_max=8589934592 to /etc/system and rebooted. Now redid my test, with terrible results.. sequential read is about 120 MB/sec. One disk should be able to handle that, 14 disks should do more than a GB/sec, and in my previous benchmark without the arc_max setting, they actually make these figures...(even when not reading from ARC cache). Random figures ar...

puzzle, need magic incantation
...start * nut disabled, please adjust the configuration to your needs * Then set MODE to a suitable value in /usr/local/ups/etc/nut/nut.conf to enable it So I look at that file and see it has only one active line: mode=standalone So where do I go from here? Minor rant: FWIW, before I asked, I redid the nut ./configure --with-doc=auto, then a make. Then I step into the docs directory and do a sudo make install, which it appears to do. But no manpages were install despite the command line echo showing that they were when I did the sudo make install, but I am forced to go into the docs dir...
