Using puppet to redeploy staging app
Hi, I''m building a staging environement and I would like it to be able to redeploy automatically, after each commit - or every hour, some applications. Those applications are right now deployed and set up by puppet. I wonder if I should use puppet to redeploy those applications after each commit, and if I should how trigger, on the puppet, a full redeployement of the application ? --

best practices for handling uploaded images and capistrano
Quick question: I am going to use the file_column plugin to manage uploading thumbnails. By default the images are stored in the public/ dir of the rails project. The problem I see is that when capistrano redeploys a new build and symlinks it in none of the images will be in the new public/ dir... Does anyone have a solution for this? Thanks, Zack -------------- next part -------------- An

using MongrelDbg
I coded up a handler, using the MongrelDbg module to help me debug. I deployed my code and found it royally broken in production because it couldn''t include that module. What''s the best practice for having MongrelDbg in code and not breaking in different environments? Is this just a bug? I commented out all my MongrelDbg usage and redeployed, and it works now. -- Cheers,

certname=hostname SSL errors
Hi all, I ran into the following problem: Until now, i used fqdn as certname (i.e. had no certname defined in puppet.conf, so defaults applied) and everything worked fine. However, I wanted to use tthe short hostname as certname, so I redeployed the puppet.conf file, re-generated the certificates and signed them, and removed the old certificates from the master. Now I have the following status:

undefined method `add''
We''ve been running into problems with ferret indexing lately. The problem is intermittent and some times it persists. Just got this after wiping the index and redeploying: NoMethodError (undefined method `add'' for Solution:Class): (druby://10.1.65.87:9009) /data/releases/20071111152414/vendor/rails/activerecord/lib/active_record/base.rb:1238:in `method_missing'' (druby://10.1.65.87:9009) /data/releases/20071111152414/vendor/plugins/act...

Notifications between definitions
I''ve been using ''define'' to make a few custom types. For example, I have a simple ''file'' like thing (s3::file) that downloads a file from S3, only if the one on the local machine doesn''t match, and it can send out notifications if the file changed. This is basically an exec command that uses some scripts I wrote in an

The ferret logs
Hi. We''ve had some problems with ferret not being able to load our classes (stack trace below for the curious). I nailed it down to a deployment issue, where an old instance of ferret drb was running. I don''t understand the details quite yet, but the result was the the old ferret was never shutdown during redeployment, and attempts were made to start up a new one. Anywho,

drop dead fix
Hello list, I am about to have to dump Asterisk in favor of some other VOIP/PBX solution; the reason? I have 304 voice prompts recorded as 22Khz wav format files that sound like crumpling paper whenever I convert them to the 8Khz wav/gsm format required by Asterisk. I was considering trying the G.729 codec, but reading through the specs, I see that the 8Khz conversion is going to
