Every post I do to this mailinglist is followed by a bounce message from
"centos.5.warren at recursor.net".
I have no clue why this is being send to me, afaics some IP address is
being blacklisted but I am not related to it.
Am I the only one who gets this and can we remove this person from the
mailinglist ?
Kind regards,

DNS caching is not working on CentOS
...k on any of my
centos boxes. Running Centos 5 and 6. Any thoughts on why these will
not run? The services start fine but when telling to perform a dig
using itself as the resolver the queries fail (See below).
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

NSD compressing RP content
Hello,
while investigating a report from Jan-Piet Mens (resulting in http://wiki.powerdns.com/trac/changeset/3109), we discovered that NSD (both 3.2.15 and 4.0.0b4) compresses labels in RP content. As far as I can see, this is not allowed by RFC3597 section 4 paragraph 1/2.
PowerDNS Recursor, like Unbound and BIND, now deals with this as 3597 section 4 paragraph 4 says we SHOULD. Nevertheless, it would be great if NSD could honor the MUST NOT in paragraph 2.
Kind regards,

...ur servers
(a) too often
(b) during office / peak hours
You could load balance multiple servers (using lots of available
load-balancing technologies) to allow you to perform maintenance at
certain times, but it has its own issues.
I've recently been looking at PowerDNS, which separates the recursor and
the authoritative server into two distinct packages. I'm just running
the authoritative server as a master, and keeping my old bind/named
servers as recursors / slaves. It's a home office network, but I only
have issues when I'm tinkering, and if I were to be doing this kind of...

how to increase DNS reliability?
Hi,
how can DNS reliability, as experienced by clients on the LAN who are
sending queries, be increased?
Would I have to set up some sort of cluster consisting of several
servers all providing DNS services which is reachable under a single
IP address known to the clients?
Just setting up several name servers and making them known to the clients
for the clients to automatically switch isn't

I'm about to do an overhaul of the DNS service at work and my plan is to
use powerdns recursor + dnsdist + keepalived.

Load balancing or clustering? At least clustering seems not entirely
trivial to do.

This can be done with bind, how does it require something called PowerDNS?

[LLVMdev] Stack swapping
Thanks to help in a previous thread, I now have a working LLVM codegen
for the MLton compiler. Currently the stack is managed explicitly on
the heap. This way the LLVM codegen re-uses the runtime layout of the
other codegens, simplifying the initial porting effort.
In the next phase I plan to switch to using LLVM to manage the stack,
but there is a sticking point: MLton switches stacks. It does

Points to two nearby instances of pdns recursor, which in turn forward
domains "ad.example.net" and "5.168.192.in-addr.arpa" to the Samba servers.

building initrd.img with updated drivers
Can someone point me to instructions on how to build a
pxeboot/initrd.img with updated drivers. I would like to pxe boot and
install rh8 on a newer machine, and the pxeboot files that come with rh8
(2.4.20-8) don't support my e1000 NIC. I believe that the newer
2.4.20-28.8 drivers will, but I'm having trouble finding instructions in

xenbr0 / domU static IPs
Hi, I have a new xen hosting platform. I have given the bridge a static IP which I can ping/ssh to etc, when I create a new vm all works well apart from the networking. If I give DomU a static IP I can''t ping out from the box, Dom0 can''t ping the vm. I''m suspecting it just isn''t seeing the bridge but am unsure where to start looking. This is a very standard

NetworkManager frustration...
I would like to use dnsmasq to cache nameserver query results, and I
have set dhcp to prepend the 127.0.0.1 name-server to the list of
nameservers. dnsmasq would then automatically exclude the localhost as a
name server and use all the others from the list provided by dhcp.
But it was too nice to be true, because NetworkManager was there, ready
to mess up anything I try to do, including the

Problem with keytab: "Client not found in Kerberos database"
I am trying to use a keytab for a client machine to authenticate to
Samba's own LDAP server.
The samba servers (replicated) are ubuntu 16.04 with samba 4.5.2
compiled from source.
The client machine is ubuntu 16.04 with stock samba 4.3.11. It has been
joined directly to the Samba domain ("net ads join"). I have also
extracted a keytab ("net ads keytab create -P")
