ZFS and small block random I/O
...egmap cache. Secondly, DTrace scripts show the IOzone application is reading 8KB blocks, but by the time the physical I/O happens it''s ballooned into a 26KB read operation for each disk. In other words, a single 8KB read generates 156KB of actual disk reads. We tried changing the ZFS recsize parameter from 128KB down to 8KB (recreated the ZPool and ZFS file system and changing recsize before creating the file), and that made the performance even worse-which has thrown us for a loop. I appreciate any assistance or direction you might be able to provide! Thanks! Marcel ---------...

ZFS Performance Issue
This may not be a ZFS issue, so please bear with me! I have 4 internal drives that I have striped/mirrored with ZFS and have an application server which is reading/writing to hundreds of thousands of files on it, thousands of files @ a time. If 1 client uses the app server, the transaction (reading/writing to ~80 files) takes about 200 ms. If I have about 80 clients attempting it @ once, it can

Rule of Thumb for zfs server sizing with (192) 500 GB SATA disks?
I''m trying to get maybe 200 MB/sec over NFS for large movie files (need large capacity to hold all of them). Are there any rules of thumb on how much RAM is needed to handle this (probably RAIDZ for all the disks) with zfs, and how large a server should be used? The throughput required is not so large, so I am thinking an X4100 M2 or X4150 should be plenty. This message posted from

Lots of overhead with ZFS - what am I doing wrong?
I was trying to simply test bandwidth that Solaris/ZFS (Nevada b63) can deliver from a drive, and doing this: dd if=(raw disk) of=/dev/null gives me around 80MB/s, while dd if=(file on ZFS) of=/dev/null gives me only 35MB/s!?. I am getting basically the same result whether it is single zfs drive, mirror or a stripe (I am testing with two Seagate 7200.10 320G drives hanging off the same interface
