Does Opensolaris support thin reclamation?
Support for thin reclamation depends on the SCSI "WRITE SAME" command; see this draft of a document from T10: http://www.t10.org/ftp/t10/document.05/05-270r0.pdf. I spent some time searching the source code for support for "WRITE SAME", but I wasn''t able to find much. I assume that if it was supported, it would be listed in this header file:

3.0.2-testing: pci_set_dma_mask, pci_set_consistent_dma_mask(pci, 0x0fffffff) returns < 0 (ICE1712)
Hi all, I''m currently running on Ubuntu Dapper and xen 3.0 testing. I noticed my sound card didnt work. I looked in dmesg and found this: Apr 9 17:49:29 phoenix kernel: [ 27.490852] architecture does not support 28bit PCI busmaster DMA Grepping the kernel I came up with this, from sound/pci/ice1712/ice1712.c: /* check, if we can restrict PCI DMA transfers to 28 bits */

Important questions for PXELINUX users
Hello, everyone; A few important questions if you use PXELINUX - Do you use the PXELINUX-specific DHCP options? - If you do, what DHCP server do you use? - Are you using vendor encapsulation (a vendor-option-space) or not (a site-option-space)? - Would it be inconvenient for you if these options were changed? RFC 3942 is flagging these option codes for reclamation as official options. I

Welcome to the Linux virtualization list. This mail should bring the list uptodate with offlist mail. It is a burgeoning attempt at generating needs for Linux virtualization. passing pointer types via .C calls
Hi, this relates to my earlier message about external references and finalizers. I was experimenting over the weekend and now suspect that the appropriate solution to my problem will be to have a special case in the code that handles the .C call so that external references are handled appropriately - I guess that a pointer to the reference should be passed to the C code. As I've never

Opinion wanted: metadata in HTTP requests
I'm thinking it might be an interesting idea to pass ipappend-style metadata (and quite possibly additional information, e.g. obtained from DMI) when making a http request, but I'm not 100% sure about the best way to do it. Options are pretty much: 1. some kind of metavariables in either the configuration file or in the filename syntax. + very general. - cumbersome for the

Firewall sizing guidelines?
I have just completed the installation of a new firewall running Shorewall 1.4 on Mandrake 9.2 for our campus network. It appears to be running fairly well so far, but is generating significantly more log entries than our previous linux 2.0.x firewall... Our previous firewall enjoyed more than 6 years of 24/7 operation with no downtime before we finally decided it needed more horsepower, and

[LLVMdev] MCJIT and Lazy Compilation
Hi Andy/Albert, Sorry for the slow reply, my day job caught up with me. Two bits of progress. (a) MCJIT is working nicely for non-trivial examples in Extempore on x86 and ARM, and (b) the page permissions are now RO again. For your amusement a *very* cheesy video of Extempore running on-the-fly with MCJIT on an ARM Pandaboard. Viewer discretion is advised! https://vimeo.com/60407237 Here is the

Re: Create qcow2 v3 volumes via libvirt
Hi Eric and list, I had another production VM start pausing itself.  This one had been running for more than 4 years on a 60G LVM volume.  It has had the occasional snapshot during that time though all have been "removed" using the virt-manager gui so I used qemu-img as you suggested. # qemu-img convert /dev/trk-kvm-02-vg/rt44 -O qcow2 /mnt/scratch/rt44.qcow2 dd'd the qcow2

[LLVMdev] MCJIT and Lazy Compilation
Hey Andy, Yep I've tested some non-trivial examples with loads of dependencies, both code and data, global, local and external symbol resolution etc.. Actually this was truly a piece of cake, nothing to do, the memory manager is working really nicely so far as I can tell. Relocations to sections are all working as expected (aside from previously mentioned ARM issue which is probably just

kernel deadlock
We have a reproducible problem with FreeBSD-4.7 which is apparently a deadlock. The system is undergoing a filesystem stress test. The machine is pingable, but console and most other features are unresponsive. The console debugger can be accessed. The following information is available with db's "ps". I suspect the wchan of "inode" to be what everything is waiting on.
