pulling recessions out of a hydrograph
Dear R community,
I'm hoping someone out there has perhaps done this and can share their code
and/or expertise with me.
I need to pull recession periods out of a hydrograph - can anyone help me
with this?
I want to create a subset from streamflow data that consists of just the
recession curves - the decreasing runoff after the passage of a peak flow.
would really appreciate any help on this!
Janet

Bordeaux 50% off recession busting sale
The Bordeaux Technology Group is proud to announce a 50% off recession busting sale on Bordeaux for Linux, Mac, FreeBSD, PCBSD and OpenIndiana. With the current US unemployment rate hovering near 10% and rumors of the possibility of a double dip recession.

Win98 asks for IPC$ password
...that phrase, but I'd
imagine if ascii codes are interpreted differently on the Windows box than the
Ubuntu box while encrypting passwords, that would be a problem.
I'm at my wits end. Does anyone have any ideas of how I can narrow this down
to the root cause?
Thanks

out of sample predictions using a probit model
...not exactly a statistician either. I'm messing
around with a probit model on an enconomic time series. I can get the model
estimated but I have not been able to get it to give me predictions out of
sample data. I'm using the predict function but getting errors. Here is my
code:
#predict a recession 12 months out
#k=12 means 12 months forward
#dates must be trimmed manually
recession.probModel <- glm(formula =
window(lag(recession.TS,k=12),start=c(1986,2)) ~
window(FEDFUNDS.TS,start=c(1986,2),end=c(2010,7))

Is Samba useful in an all-Linux environment?
Hi all,
This isn't meant to be a troll. It's a legitimate question asked because I
haven't done much with Samba for 9 years.
Is there anything Samba can contribute to an all-Linux environment with no
Windows or Mac computers?
Thanks

Problems in Recommending R
Dear List,
One persistent feedback I am getting to people who are newly introduced to R
( especially in this cost cutting recession) is -
1) The website looks a bit old.
While the current website does have a lot of hard work behind it, should n't
a world class statistics package have a better website instead.
You can check out www.knime.org which is an open source software , and free,
and supports R---and notice the cha...

Are there equivalents to xblocks or rect that can be used with plot.xts?
I would like to add vertical shaded blocks in plot.xts graphs (like recession
periods in FRED graphs)
The reason I use plot.xts instead of plot.zoo is that I like the fact that
the grid is automatically aligned with major ticks in plot.xts.
xblocks() and rect() do not seem to work with plot.xts (only with plot.zoo).
Are there any alternative methods that work with plot.xt...

reposurgon and the conversion
My wife just got laid off - the recession has hit her law firm hard.
This means my priorities have shifted to either finding more paying
work myself or helping her find another job.
This means the timeframe for a finished repo conversion just got more
uncertain, as I may not be able to work steadily on it for a while.

OpenVPN/SNOM 820: a review.
Hey, all. Got an SNOM 820 in the other day to kick the tires. As with
many phones, provisioning it was a bit of a PITA. The biggest problem, as
far as I could tell, was that their firmware just doesn't seem that
stable, and is sometimes hard to get to.
- I managed to corrupt the firmware twice; fortunately, instead of
bricking the phone, there's a fairly easy-to-use "rescue

Drawing Polygons with xyplot in lattice
...What I would now like to do is to add vertical bands (rectangles) that correspond to time-periods during which each of the 36 countries was at war, which would be different for each of the 36 panels. The effect I'd like to produce is similar that found here: http://thinkorthwim.com/2007/09/12/recession/ (but with 36 panels, each of which has a different period(s) shaded).
I've done this successfully one plot at a time with the simple plot commmand (using polygon after having first drawn the line plot), but am having difficulty replicating it with xyplot.
Here is some sample code (with 4 cou...

If Wine isn't am emulator how does it work
Sorry about this noob question, but this is something that has been boring
me. So Wine is a compatibly layer that tricks windows based apps into
working on Linux. But isn't that what an emulator does? I know emulators
more typically visualize the hardware which uses more recesses, but there
are also high level emulators which just create the environment.
isn't any software that tricks a

centos 8-Streams kernel?
...d. Exactly what you want from a distro like Streams. Exactly what Red Hat would expect to get from a distro like Streams, right?
However, now that streams kernel has been behind RHEL for months, I begin to wonder, is it a symptom of something? What? Change of direction or simple lack of resources (recession and quiet quitting and all that jazz)? Is it time to switch to the old way (i.e. Rocky) again?

how do I download pictures from a dumb phone?
Inserting anything other than a USB cable into the phone seems to be a no-go.
There is one slightly wider and thinner recess,
but no metal is in it.
It looks like a slightly less dumb model would use
the same outer case and a somewhat different inner case.
